I want to apologize to an old colleague of mine. He’d just gotten married and took a 10 day honeymoon (wow!). A month later he did a weekend ski trip (oof!) and couldn’t get WiFi for a closing that got moved up 4 weeks. I filled in for him. I remember the partner saying he was a total ‘liability’ & that he sucked. I laughed and said “yeah - doesn’t want it.” I believed it too. I spent the whole weekend playing ‘hero’ for Deal Team Six. You can ALWAYS count on me. Meanwhile my relationship was on borrowed time and hair thinning rapidly. I’m V10 baby! He got ‘stealth’ dismissed that Monday. They let him keep his website photo for 2 months while he found something new. He did. Fast forward a few years - I see it way different. He was bright, and hard working, and put his ppl first. He liked his life. He had balls. But I was racin’! - king of the rats. And my apartment in midtown actually had vermin. A totally delusional period of my life. One of those lessons you learn in hindsight. Hope you’re doing well brother.

I recently ran an experiment in one of my classes, trying to get every major AI tool (including legal tools) to produce a simple memo for a law school assignment. I gave the AI all the cases/laws it needed in context, and it still hallucinated quite a bit. BUT none of the hallucinations were made-up cases or law. It was more like conflating two cases, slightly miswording quotes, or misapplying doctrine. Human in the loop is necessary. I will publish my findings soon. Gotta get through finals next week.

are people actually able to get cowork to turn full drafts of complex docs? i invested 6 hrs talking into it, etc, preparing a set of instructions for a full markup a month ago, only for it to spit out pure hallucinations. obviously the world is going that way, but is it there yet? maybe the answer is no and that's why H/L have not rolled out the function.

Construction is deeply misunderstood. It starts with culturing, like framing contractors as inept dingos. A bad build is *often* downstream of a weak owner - that’s why I have a job. And real ones know EPC (engineer, procure, construct), not just “C.” Total cash cow in big law rn

Yet another person I know is dealing with massive issues with the contractor building their house. Huge mistakes made, construction stopped, contractor blaming others, attorneys getting involved, and years of litigation ahead. It's a nightmare, and sadly all too common.
