Every European drying rack is the answer to a math problem Americans never have to solve. Spain residential power runs €0.29/kWh. Germany €0.38. Texas runs $0.13. A conventional dryer eats roughly 4 kWh per cycle, so a single load costs €1.16 in Madrid vs $0.52 in Houston. Five loads a week, 52 weeks, you're at €300/year in Spain vs $135 in Texas just to spin a heated drum. Stack the appliance economics. EU energy efficiency rules pushed cheap vented dryers off shelves years ago. The replacement is the heat pump dryer, which uses 50-60% less energy but retails €800-1500 vs $400 for a US vented unit. Worse upfront cost, worse running cost. Then the apartment constraint. Most European flats don't have venting infrastructure and don't have a dedicated laundry room. The washer sits in the bathroom or kitchen. There's no space for a second machine even if the running cost made sense. The drying rack costs €30. Lasts a decade. Uses zero electricity. What you're looking at is a household that ran the numbers and refused to spend €2,000+ over ten years to dry clothes 6 hours faster than physics does for free. The Texan at $0.13/kWh in a 200 sqm house was always buying the dryer. The Spaniard at €0.29/kWh in an 80 sqm flat was always buying the rack.

Deutschland sitzt auf einem gigantischen Energieschatz und tut so, als wäre es völlig abhängig vom Ausland und auf Wind und Sonne angewiesen. Unsere Steinkohle reicht für Tausende Jahre, die Braunkohle für 300 bis 400 Jahre. Erdgas könnte uns 20 bis 30 Jahre versorgen und selbst die Ölreserven würden noch rund 10 Jahre durchhalten. Und dann das große Tabu: Mit den vorhandenen Uranbeständen ließen sich die abgeschalteten Kernkraftwerke locker 100 Jahre lang betreiben – sicher, zuverlässig völlig unabhängig vom Ausland, umwelt- und klimaschonend. Während andere Länder ihre Ressourcen nutzen, wird hier absichtlich verknappt, verteuert und verzichtet. Nicht aus Not, sondern aus reiner Ideologie. Deutschland hat kein Energieproblem – Deutschland hat ein massives politisches Problem.

Mit 59 Stundenkilometer ist ein Fahrradfahrer durch eine #30er-Zone im #NachrodtWiblingwerde (Märkischer Kreis) gerast. Die #Polizei hat diesen Wert bei einer Kontrolle gemessen. Damit war der Zweiradfahrer der zweitschnellste Verkehrsteilnehmer an diesem Tag. Besonders brisant für die Polizisten: Die Strecke führt an einer #Schule, einer Sporthalle und einem Schwimmbad vorbei. Genau dort müssen Autofahrer und auch Radfahrer besonders vorsichtig sein. Die Polizei betont, dass Tempolimits auch für Fahrradfahrer gelten. Gerade Kinder rechnen nicht mit so schnellen Radfahrern. Für sie kann das schnell ziemlich gefährlich werden.

Hab diese Woche erst mit meinem Malermeister aus Berlin gesprochen. Der ist 38 Jahre alt, hat 20 Angestellte, 7 Dienstwagen. Er meinte, er rechnet mittlerweile jeden Morgen ob sich die Fahrt zum Kunden noch lohnt. Diesel steht aktuell bei 2,11 und er meinte ganz offen: Ich muss die Mehrkosten auf meine Kunden umlegen, sonst geht die Rechnung nicht mehr auf. Und das ist ja nicht nur sie. Nen Fahrlehrer in Schleswig-Holstein zahlt 700-800 Euro mehr im Monat für Diesel. Muss die Fahrstunde auf 72 Euro erhöhen. Ist ne Menge für nen 18-Jährigen der den Lappen braucht um zur Ausbildung zu kommen. Der Taxiunternehmer in Düsseldorf mit 300 Wagen darf seine Preise nicht erhöhen weil es ne Tarifordnung gibt. Heißt: 30% weniger Gewinn. Der Stellt lieber die Autos ab. Kein Homeoffice, kein Lastenrad, kein Deutschlandticket. Die brauchen Diesel. Jeden Tag. Und von jedem Liter gehen 80 Cent an nen Staat der null Interesse an billigem Sprit hat.

Something happened with this guy in China the other week. Up until then, he’d been idiotically belligerent toward Trump and generally pathetic like all European elites. Then in China, unlike Carney, Starmer, Macron, and the rest who slobbered all over Xi, he at least held back a little. When he came back, he admitted the Europeans should be grateful for what Trump is doing, acknowledging they themselves don’t even have the capacity to do it. And today at the White House, he’s continued down this path, even calling out his supposed EU partner Spain. Truly remarkable.
