The article, and report, give a £191bn figure, which I'd say is exaggerated, and there are some obvious red flags in the market research report, not least it listing Playboy and AVN Media as its top two key industry players, both of which are dwarfed by OnlyFans and Aylo, before including Brazzers, which is owned by Aylo. None of this gets to the key issues, which aren't about industry scale but about how, first, collapsing production costs from the shift to digital production in the 1990s and, latterly, the rise of algorithm driven tube sites have enabled more extreme forms of niche porn to achieve a level of prominence far beyond the size of its core use base, plus the issue of audience capture on creator sites such as OnlyFans, which is only going to become more prominent as those platforms grow.

@TheLiquidatorP1 Nightmarish. And what value do we get from £37m of salaries for players. They really have let us down.

@NatEvaJudeD Or Wallace squares the ball to Maja, who got goal side of his defender, and we have a simple tap in.

I have to wonder if the ref had spotted that Maja had got goal side of his defender, making it a clear goal-scoring opportunity because Wallace only has to square it to leave Maja with a sitter. As long as he thinks Walllace is getting to the ball in that scenario, then the letter of the law says its a red.

I can't imagine what it's like to live with such little imagination that you want everyone to look like identikit drones in dull uniforms of grey suits, when you could have someone with imagination, flair & humour as an alternative. It's just Mao suits for Mail readers, innit?

Have you ever watched reality television show ‘Snog Marry Avoid’? I asked @grok to do a POD style makeunder, and dress Hannah Spencer in a simple white blouse and black pencil skirt, and smarten up her hair. Anyone who thinks her presentation is irrelevant should take a look. She dresses like a child for a reason. That concerns me.

@susiesymes1 @OliverKamm @ClaireCoutinho @Zehra_Zaidi Why indeed, unless there are a multitude of other candidates who might also be considered noteworthy purely on their achievements and without regard to their ethnic origin. And therein lies the seeds of contention.

@Unity_MoT @OliverKamm @ClaireCoutinho @Zehra_Zaidi I was there; and saw the great warmth and depth of support across parties. Debate is at the heart of a functioning democracy, but apart from people with racist views, why would recognising achievement of people of colour cause conflict?

This may seem like a small deal to some, but these reminders of our history bind us all together. Turner, Turing, Churchill, Austen. In the past it's been Elgar, Darwin, Newton, Adam Smith. We are losing those small moments in our day to remember what makes this country great.

It was a ten minute rule bill which went through its first reading on the nod and was never published, so fell for lack of a second reading. And, in any case, is the very existence of campaigns seeking to determine which figures the Bank of England deem to noteworthy based on a particular cultural viewpoint not indicative of contention?

@Unity_MoT @OliverKamm @ClaireCoutinho @Zehra_Zaidi What precisely is it you see as contentious ? There was significant cross party support, a unanimous vote in the HoC, and wide support from public figures and the general public, who suggested names.

@susiesymes1 @OliverKamm @ClaireCoutinho @Zehra_Zaidi And yet it's the very existence of such campaigns, however well intentioned, that is likely to have prompted the BOE to move away from incorporating portraits of historical figures on banknotes in favour of a less contentious theme.

The literal translation of 'doom' from the Anglo Saxon is 'that which is put down' so it carries a lot of connotations from the legal - Alfred's Doom book is a legal code but also a code of ethics and a collection of judgments and precedents that lays the foundations of what would become the common law- to the moral, spiritual and prophetic and even encompassing notions of fate and predestination. Its a term that does a lot of heavy lifting in British and Northern European folklore and in modern literature that draws on those traditions, from Tolkein and Michael Moorcock right through to stuff like Game of Thrones. There's a richness of meaning that you could easily spend a seminar exploring without achieving much more than scratching the surface.

@Unity_MoT @AmericanGwyn @TheSimonEvans *was, not were. And there is a curse/prophesy element to it too. So I think "law" is not right. It is more a legal consequence? So legal and moral and spiritual judgment?

Teaching The Return of the King last week, I told my students to watch how Tolkien uses the word "doom." As a scholar of Anglo-Saxon, Tolkien was interested in the term's original meaning: "law" or "decree." Dōmas were the legal codes and judgments issued by kings.

@BrydenLaw @AmericanGwyn @TheSimonEvans 'Decree' is perhaps the best general term. Perhaps the clearest usage of 'doom' in the Tolkein canon is the 'Doom of Mandos' in chapter nine of The Silmarillion, which is a judgment, certainly, but also simultaneously a curse and a prophecy.

@AmericanGwyn @TheSimonEvans Is "law" the right translation? Is it not more "decree" as you say, or "judgment" or "ruling" - as in, case specific rather than something that applies across the board?

Likely a 4-4-2 defensively. In attack I want to see us play an asymmetrical 4-3-3 with Heggebo playing off Dike, Bostock hugging the left touchline and Imray playing on the overlap to give width on the right. We've tried everything else, so why not bring a touch of the great 78/79 team to the modern game and see what happens.

I've got the numbers. This is for 36 league games, to date, and includes the goalkeeper as part of our defensive line-up. We've made a total of 71 defensive changes from game to game. That includes 5 changes of formation, 46 changes of personnel and 20 positional changes, where a player has played in the previous game but not in the same position in the defence. We've played the exact same defence in consecutive games on just six occasions this season, the last occasion being the away game at Swansea. We've not managed to go more than two games without making at least one defensive change.
