As a Criminal Defense Attorney… hell, as a citizen of this country - this ruling is very troubling. Your property - even detached buildings - is as much a part of your home as your own bedroom. Lethal force should always apply to defense of your home.

International blockade law was set by the British long ago. So far as a blockade is concerned, the legality of the blockade is really based on whether the nation declaring it can actually enforce it. As to what falls within the parameters of the blockade and thus would be legal to fire on is any ship, vessal, boat, schooner, tanker, kayak, speedboat, catamaran, submarine, or submersible capable of carrying soldiers, weapons, or supplies into the blockaded port. Historically speaking, if all a blockaded nation need do to render the blockade illegal and make the rest of the world jump the offending nation is take the guns off their boats, blockades wouldn't be worth much of shit would they? No international laws were broken. Many morons will say they were because they don't have even the faint clue I do.

I'm not sure how to word this without either sounding like I'm being a dick or falling into the common trap of lost context, so I'm going to try to lead you with a question: If you disagree with the ruling because of the obvious problems with the ideas behind it, would it not follow that these ruling continuing to occur would be troubling from the perspective of a defense attorney who also disagrees? It's happening over and over across the country in these states and it's considered perfectly reasonable despite the problems. I find that troubling. To put it mildly.
