1) I think politicians (especially from the left) being focused on AI risk in an intelligent way is super important, if we keep falling for "water usage" slopulist memes that will be very bad 2) My understanding is the bill says the moratorium is only until a comprehensive framework to deal with AI developments is reached, so its basically forcing the big labs to come and work with the gov to establish how to handle this 3) This will obviously not pass but it moves the conversation in an infinitely more intelligent direction than it currently is in (especially on the AI skeptic side) and positions leftist leaders on the frontier of this issue politically

Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez' AI Data Center Moratorium Act contains a moratorium on all US datacenter upgrading and construction, as well as a ban on the export of all US-origin GPU's. Press conference this afternoon.

union leftists a greater impediment to progress than literally the vacuum of space

WaPo crushing it today: "America is lucky that Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) wasn’t in office for the advent of the light bulb. We might all still be reading by candlelight." washingtonpost.com/opinions/2026/…

@edwest After a decade in the public sector I still find this one of the most replicable observations ever made.

Italy is causing an uproar after drafting laws to castrate rapists and pedophiles so they can NEVER reoffend or reproduce. Critics are calling it "state sanctioned torture." Is this torture or justice?

Nobody talks about this enough: being broke makes you a worse person. more jealous. more reactive. more desperate. Poverty doesn't just shrink your wallet, it shrinks your character.

I think it's kinda funny that there's like 10 accounts vagueblogging about me implying I said "indigenous people need to stop eating meat" and not "non indigenous people need to stop invoking 'Native Cultures' as an argument for 21st century mass meat consumption practices"

AI and robotics are going to bring cataclysmic changes to our society. Sadly, Congress has done virtually nothing. AI must work for working families, not the billionaires. Today, I’m introducing a moratorium on new data centers until we protect working people.

We are rapidly creating technology that could surpass human intelligence, with enormous risks to jobs, society and humanity itself. AI must work for all of us, not just a handful of billionaires. That’s why I’m introducing a moratorium on new AI data centers.
