$100M spent today, gets 100 people indoors 5 years later with the status quo approach. That’s not scalable, it’s not humane, and it’s certainly not progressive to create the perfect solution for the lucky few, while leaving thousands of others to die on the streets. In San Jose, we changed our approach. We didn’t tax people more; we spent their dollars better to address their biggest issue. Three years later, we’ve reduced unsheltered homelessness for the first time in a very long time — and helped thousands get back on a path to self-sufficiency. Our answer can’t always be to spend more; we need to spend better. I plan to do that statewide once elected.

@MattMahanSJ CA gas tax is for road repairs. Zero goes to the fed, for any war. CA gas tax is a fraud because we’re paying ~$2/gallon for this tax while our roads are full of potholes; many practically damage our cars. Instead of a sensible explanation, Mahan chooses to be full of 💩 & TDS.

We can’t just say we want to make California more affordable — we have to take bold action to actually do it. Starting by ending the gas tax so Californians don’t pay for Trump’s war every time they go to the pump.

I grew up in a little farming town called Watsonville, and every morning, my parents woke me up before dawn to get to school. And every morning, we would see our neighbors already hard at work in the fields. Our farmworkers, our immigrants, our agricultural communities work so hard. This day, and this movement, was never about one person. It was built by thousands of families who fought for dignity, for fair wages, for a better life. That fight continues today. As governor, I'll stand with the workers and families still fighting. Happy Farmworkers Day.
