@DrEliDavid I was visiting Texas in November 1979. The diplomatic standoff between the U.S. & Iran resulted in 53 American hostages. I first heard this Baritone Dwarfs parody of “Barbara Ann” called “Bomb Iran.” 47 years later. Wow.

@F_Compounders I think I also read this quote in Fred Schwed Jr., who wrote it in his 1940 classic “Where Are the Customers’ Yachts.”

@osssociety @BRyvkin “Man called intrepid.” We live quite close to what was once called “Camp X.”

OSS founder MG William "Wild Bill" Donovan - the only person who received our nation's four highest decorations including the Medal of Honor, and the founding father of the US intelligence and special operations communities - died OTD 1959. Prime Minister Winston Churchill said Gen. Donovan "carried an animating, heartwarming flame." President Roosevelt called him his "secret legs." Upon learning of his death, President Eisenhower said he was the "last hero." Allen Dulles said of him: "He traveled widely. He understood people. He had a flair for the dangerous, tempered with judgment. In short, he had the qualities to be desired in an intelligence officer." His special assistant, Fisher Howe, said: "If you define leadership as having a vision for an organization and the ability to attract, motivate, and guide others to fulfill that vision, then you have Bill Donovan in spades."

@WestJet @SunwingVacay YYZ passengers tech delayed to Cancun last night.
Terrible treatment of our “special needs” daughter & 2 care workers on their hotel transit. Very poor treatment after very long travels.
Now considering private transport. Don’t need that treatment again.
English

@online_uest It was very unfortunate. Our daughter and PSWs were last to the transport. There wasn’t room for their or buggy. She didn’t feel welcomed at all.

@FoodProfessor No one has demonstrated price discipline like Costco and the $1.50 hot dog and coke in store offer. Kept it at that price since 1987.

Heard back from @McDonaldsCanada regarding concerns about portion sizes following the price freeze.
Here’s the comment I just received...

The Food Professor@FoodProfessor
BREAKING: McDonald's Canada freezes prices for one year on $5 Value Meals and $1 menu items, locking in entry-level affordability. Rivals are already reacting: Burger King and Wendy's are doubling down on value bundles and limited-time discounts.

Merry Christmas to all my Christian friends and followers celebrating. On a personal family note, today is also both my grandmother’s and my uncle’s (her son) birthdays. How about that?

@HGACinema That was a story my dad shared with me over 50 years ago. Dad loved W.C Fields.

“It has been said that Fields's grave marker is inscribed, “I'd rather be in Philadelphia”. The legend originated from a mock epitaph written by Fields for a 1925 Vanity Fair article: “Here Lies / W. C. Fields / I Would Rather Be Living in Philadelphia”. In reality, his interment marker bears only his stage name and the years of his birth and death.”

Video | W.C. Fields ― “The Art of Offense”
W. C. Fields was one of the most distinctive voices in early Hollywood comedy — a master of sarcasm, misanthropy, and subversive humor. Fields built a career on playing the lovable curmudgeon, skewering family life, politics, and everyday manners with biting wit.
In this retrospective, we explore how Fields turned offense into an art form, why his comedy was so controversial in its time, and how his legacy still resonates today.
