US begins Visa Ban on  Religious Freedom Violators in Nigeria The United States has begun enforcing a new visa restriction policy aimed at individuals accused of violating religious freedom in Nigeria, according to Mark Walker, the US principal adviser for global religious freedom. The policy, announced in December by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, targets those who “knowingly direct, authorise, fund, support, or carry out violations of religious freedom.” It forms part of broader US action in response to what officials described as “atrocities and violence against Christians” in Nigeria and globally. The move followed a resolution introduced by Chris Smith, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Africa Subcommittee, which recommended visa bans and asset freezes for individuals and organisations linked to severe religious freedom ab¥ses.  The resolution specifically named the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria and Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore as entities of concern. Providing an update on Friday via X, Walker confirmed that enforcement is already underway. “We have already executed on this policy, and we will continue to subject perpetrators to additional scrutiny,” he said, without naming those affected. He added a strong warning, “If you engage in p£rsecution, you are not welcome in America. The United States is safer when we keep those responsible for religious p£rsecution from entering our homeland.” In February, US lawmakers also proposed sanctions against Rabiu Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano State, alleging his complicity in religious freedom violations.

Many Nigerian parents abroad still believe in the power of extra lessons to keep their children ahead in school. With Alstein, you can hire experienced Nigerian tutors who understand the discipline and teaching style that works — for far less than what you’d pay overseas. Chat Alstein: wa.me/2347025297668

Yesterday, I honoured the invitation of the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation at the launch of its landmark report titled “Strengthening the Nexus Between Democracy and Economic Growth in Nigeria.” The report and the robust panel discussions that followed did not just present data; they reiterated the necessary truth that we have failed in critical areas of development: health, education, and pulling our people out of poverty. Over the past decade, our democratic progress has weakened while the economic well-being of our people has continued to decline. Consensus thinking from the event is that our leadership recruitment process must change for democracy to thrive. The recruitment must be based on competence, capacity, compassion, character, and commitment to serving the well-being of the people. And for it to thrive, our institutions must be strong, independent, and accountable to the people. We must rebuild trust in our institutions, restore discipline in Leadership, and ensure that governance translates into measurable improvements in the lives of Nigerians. A New Nigeria is POssible. -PO

Nigeria is Not Collapsing. Reject This False Narrative — Min. of Information, Mohammed Idris to Nigerians The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has dismissed claims that Nigeria is on the verge of collapse, insisting the country is instead moving steadily toward growth and stability. Speaking in Abuja at the 2026 Voice of Nigeria Forum themed “51 Years of Nigeria’s Role in Deepening Democratic Stability in ECOWAS,” Idris urged Nigerians to reject what he described as a “false narrative” about the nation’s future. According to him, repeated claims of collapse are not only misleading but also contradictory. “You cannot have a country that is about to collapse and you are there planning how to live within it. I think that we need to rethink how we make these statements. What do you think others from outside this country will think of us if all the time we project our country as a country that is about to collapse? We have seen and heard this rhetoric over and over again,” he noted. He acknowledged existing challenges, particularly in security and the economy, but said the administration of President Bola Tinubu is tackling them directly through reforms and strategic interventions. Idris highlighted key government efforts, including a N5.41 trillion allocation to security in the 2026 budget, the highest sectoral funding, aimed at boosting military capacity and strengthening operations. Citing recent gains, the minister said armed forces neutralised top t£rror commanders and rescued over 2,000 k+dnapped victims in 2025. On the economy, he pointed to signs of recovery, claiming inflation has eased to around 15 per cent, while GDP growth exceeded projections at over 4 per cent. He also noted that Nigeria’s foreign reserves have surpassed $50 billion for the first time in over a decade, alongside rising foreign direct investment. “Nigeria is on a march towards sustained prosperity, not collapse,” Idris said, urging citizens to project a more balanced narrative about the country’s progress.
