Pakistani dhows carrying drug cargoes have been intercepted as far south as Mozambique. Notably, a Pakistani national, Tanveer Ahmed “Galby,” suspected of running a smuggling network in southern Africa, was extradited by Mozambique to the US in 2020 to face drug trafficking charges . Concerns about the Pakistani military's involvement in drug trafficking are longstanding. A 1994 @CIA consultant's report warned that drug corruption had permeated virtually all segments of Pakistani society, with drug kingpins closely connected to key institutions of power, including the military intelligence agencies .
