Just because people are less violent today doesn’t mean they’re less antagonistic. Quite the opposite.
We’ve replaced things like duels, feuds, religious conflict, and the occasional mass murdering lunatic with endless moral excommunication, character assassination, deplatforming, debanking, institutional weaponization, and the occasional rogue bureaucrat/judge who lets the murderers out of prison on humanitarian grounds.
We’ve basically exchanged the masculine ways for adjudicating conflict (both its noble and barbaric forms) for explicitly feminine ones.
The physical “intensity” (for lack of a better term) between people has dropped to record lows on the individual level at the same time that we’re kicking everything upward to the institutional or state level.
Can this continue forever? I don’t know. Eventually, we may get to a point where people so cavalier in their flippant remarks about doing things to others they’ve never done themselves that perhaps a critical mass will ask a very simple question and find the answer lacking.
I am not convinced that people can be kept in a state where they’re unwilling to fight and die for a cause forever.
