CBS whiffed on hole 18 at the Masters, but we get way too many crowd reaction shots in sports now. You should never miss any part of a live sports event. And stop with the wacky video game angles too! The game is the star, don’t miss it!

I think his point was that not all golfers can economically afford to not only skip tournaments, but also fly private there & back just to play golf.
Sure, other golfers could’ve bought regular flights to Augusta but if you’re skipping tournaments (not getting paid) + paying for flights to practice golf, it’s probably not the most economically wise decision.

I have to disagree with Jon on this. Any golfer playing at the masters could have done the same and chose not to. He wanted to win the second time and did what he needed to do. Other golfers could have done the same. This sort of reeks of sports socialism to me. Because other golfers did not do it, even though they could have done it, we should penalize Rory.

A lot of the conversation around Rory McIlroy's "unfair advantage", especially from golf media, is completely missing the point... There's no reason there shouldn't be a cap on the amount of times golfers can play Augusta the month prior to The Masters, whether they're past champs or not. This ensures there isn't a blatant competitive disparity. Yes, golfers that qualify for the tournament can access the course the month prior, but everyone can't skip three straight tournaments* & fly private whenever they want to Augusta. *Again, this encourages top golfers to skip tournaments, devaluing those tournaments for broadcast partners, patrons, & sponsors. For example, if the cap is 3-4 practice rounds at Augusta the month prior to the tournament, consider them like timeouts. Use them or lose them. Problem solved. Debate over. Past champions still get their well-deserved perks, but they don't get a blatant unfair advantage.

@EWErickson The modern day golf media is exactly why I don’t watch as much golf as I use to, can’t stand most of golf ch guys and the rest are worse. Not a Rory fan but out working the opponents is how you win I see nothing wrong with it.

@ClayTravis CBS for years now has become unwatchable for golf, they only put the banner up showing what the player is hitting for 3 seconds it’s like they don’t even care to cover the sport anymore.

Still laughing about CBS having a billion cameras on the 18th hole at the Masters and somehow still missed having any idea where both guys approach shots on 18 went and had a camera shot where you couldn’t see the hole for Rory’s winning putt.
