Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, on why founders can't escape burnout the way everyone else does: Most people have an off-ramp when burnout hits. Founders don't, and Sam doesn't sugarcoat what that means. His answer is blunt: "The answer to this is just that it sucks and you keep going." He explains why founders don't have the same exit options others do: "Unlike a student where you can sort of like throw up your hands and say, you know what, I'm really burned out. I'm just going to like get bad grades this quarter. One of the hard parts about running a startup is that it's real life and you just have to get through it." The usual escape routes don't work either. Sam pushes back on the standard advice given to burned-out founders: "The canonical advice is like go on vacation or whatever. That never works for founders. It's sort of all consuming in this way is very difficult to understand. So what you do is you just keep going." But pushing through doesn't mean doing it alone. @sama stresses the importance of leaning on others: "You rely on people. It's like really important and founder depression is the serious thing and you need to have support network." His core takeaway is that burnout isn't solved by escaping the work. It's solved by working through it: "The way through burnout is just to address the challenges, address the things that are going wrong and you'll eventually feel better."

@unclebobmartin So what, are you going to write down all specifications / requirements for how the system should work in detail, in English? If only there was a way to codify requirements for a computer… Oh wait.

Learning to manually code in 2026 is like memorizing every road in the country the year GPS came out. By the time you master it, nobody will need it.

@asaio87 I honestly don't know how people are building scalable and maintainable systems. The system design quality of top models like Opus 4.6 is just trash.

@MatthewRideout Absolutely true. You can give a comprehensive list of requirements and design pointers and it's still garbage, even the output of "edge" models like Opus 4.6.

@Biedersam Dude, the ability to introspect is quite limited. You will find almost no new things about yourself, or just a lot of false leads. I think he meant to just do more stuff and stop overthinking and anchoring yourself in the past.
