@XEQtor @FFmpeg Muxing Matroska containers and wrapping x264 (like FFmpeg does) could be done in a weekend. For typical use cases, FFmpeg is not that impressive.

@FFmpeg He has and have seen the ffmpeg code base from GitHub. Of course he can say all the sh¡t he wants. If he had to start from scratch, let him try, say, Intel's implementation of their H.261 codec. Let's see how his motion compensation/prediction works after 1 week of coding. 🤣

Reverse engineering codecs has been the lifetime work of several FFmpeg developers. It wouldn't come back in a week.
