Not quite sure Brooks Rogowski is the direction I'd have gone in, but that's another altogether reasonable if not outright good pick and one that fits with the Canucks obsession with traits -- size, relative speed, and flashes of playmaking skill. May be a bottom-six NHL pivot

@X1Abe @ThomasDrance I’d take 9 this year over Buium, Ohgren is a bottom 6 prospect not 1st round pick value just because he’s a former pick, 24th and 25th is a wash, then you get to the wildcards, Rossi who’s maybe worth a mid 1st or a 2029 pick that could very easily be a top 5 pick.

@samgp13 @ThomasDrance Ottawa got three 1sts (one in top 10) and a 2nd. Hughes got equivalent of four 1st round picks (Rossi was 9OA).

Senators were capped as a good, non-elite side as they were constructed. Also think they likely remain a high-end defensive team with a low ceiling even after dealing Brady Tkachuk. Question now is will they pick, or do they use these newfound liquid assets to improve now?

@mattsekeres @akaRCN Jake Debrusk is a 30 year old 3rd line winger, how many of those guys return 1sts? The powerplay utility makes him unique but overall he’s pretty invisible

Less than a minute to go, Tocchet throws out his top 3 centers against McDavid & Draisaitl. EP40 blind kicks an Elias Lindholm saucer pass out of mid air that bounces off the post to JT Miller who buries it. The entire play that perfectly encapsulates both Petey and Miller when they were at their best. Petey's cerebrality + creativeness, and Miller's directness + clutchness On the ice, they were so good for each other. What an absolute shame they couldn't finish the job in games 6 or 7.

Drafting is hard and looking back is a pointless (but fun) exercise but the #Canucks taking Podkolzin and the next two wingers off the board being Caufield and Boldy hurts so so much. Boldy is a MONSTER

The #Canucks need to get back to ethical hooping. This is the city of Bure, the West Coast Express and the Sedins. Watching this team play 3-on-3 hockey - just cynical figure eights in the neutral zone for minutes on end - is an insult to the hockey tradition of this city.

I genuinely believe there’s been a shift in the Canucks fanbase. 10 years ago they don’t support a rebuild. Now a bunch of millennials have adult money and they want to go to games even if the team is in last. The crowd is full of 30-40 year olds night after night.

3 years running we get to make fun of @ThomasDrance for his impassioned dunking of the Hronek trade & his "The Red Wings are in the Business of Winning Cups" take. Van may need to trade Hronek themselves but if/when they do he'll be worth much more than the cost of acquisition.
