We're bringing the advisor strategy to the Claude Platform. Pair Opus as an advisor with Sonnet or Haiku as an executor, and get near Opus-level intelligence in your agents at a fraction of the cost.

Would love the fact to add custom tools to claude code (in the same format and usability the native ones have). Technically you could do a lot with MCP, but this tyoe of tools would be nice to be able to define them, eg a variant of AskUserQuestion tool or something to visualize stuff...

Thrilled to announce the Monitor tool which lets Claude create background scripts that wake the agent up when needed. Big token saver and great way to move away from polling in the agent loop Claude can now: * Follow logs for errors * Poll PRs via script * and more!

I don't know what the fuss is about. Anthropic's rules on using subscriptions are very simple: Claude Code = OK Claude's online platform = OK Agent SDK running in personal software = OK... ish? Agent SDK running in commercial software = NOT OK Claude Code running in CI = ?? Oh, maybe it's not so simple... Agent SDK running in CI = ?? claude -p running in CI = ?? claude -p running in personal software = OK claude -p running on open source software, but run on my personal computer = ?? claude -p running on distributed sandboxes, kicked off by me = ?? Distributing open source software which relies on claude -p, and documenting how to use your subscription with it = ?? A thousand other edge cases = ?? Let me be clear. I have never before experienced, from any developer tool, such a frustrating lack of clarity over the basic terms of usage. I personally asked, 3 weeks ago, and have received nothing but delays. The recent @bcherny announcement did absolutely nothing to clarify things. I say this as someone who just released a Claude Code course - my incentives all align with supporting Anthropic.
Boris Cherny@bcherny

@EricBuess Yep, working on improving clarity here to make it more explicit

Kind of insane that a CLI flag needs its own terms of service 🙃🙃🙃
Boris Cherny@bcherny

@garrytan We think this is an overactive abuse-detection system, digging in. Also working on making the terms for -p crystal clear.

Mocked Playwright tests are fast, green, and almost meaningless. Every mock is an assumption. A test that never hits the real integration is a unit test in disguise. The mock passes because you wrote both the mock and the code. That's not a test. That's a check.

like I’ve said a few times, well within TOS to do this, they built the model, if they wanna give you inference at pennies on the dollar on the condition that you use their harness, great, they have the right to do this. On this topic in particular, I don’t understand the “evil” or “rugpull”, jeers. There was never any promise to give people cheap inference. Before the claude code max plan we were all paying per token to use this stuff. And we’re more or less happy to do it (sure the VC funding helps). Every enterprise I know pays per token because when you use subsidized inference, YOU are the product. “Have some cheap code, in exchange for helping to train the next gen of models” You can hate on that particular behavior if you want but nobody is making you take part in that particular market dynamic. Do I wanna see a world where model companies take some of their massive financial gains and use that to pull everybody up? Of course. I hope it happens some day. An allegory perhaps: If public e-bike company gave you a subscription on rides and you proceeded to around ripping out batteries and sticking them in your own bike and ride around town, you’d get banned for that too. Especially if your bike was poorly wired and overloaded the batteries/cause them to flame up etc. Banning that behavior would deliver far better results for the people who were using the system as designed
Boris Cherny@bcherny

Starting tomorrow at 12pm PT, Claude subscriptions will no longer cover usage on third-party tools like OpenClaw. You can still use these tools with your Claude login via extra usage bundles (now available at a discount), or with a Claude API key.

Our Codex dashboards are showing increased rate of users hitting rate limits and since we don't fully understand why I have made the cautious decision of resetting the usage limits for all plans. Enjoy. I also wanted to celebrate us finding a pocket of fraudulent accounts that we banned and have helped us regain some compute. The fight against abuse never stops, but it's important to mark the moment and make it a little shared victory.

If @ycombinator can decide after a 20 minute chat to give you $500k, maybe you really don't need 5 rounds of interviews for one hire.
