From the footage shown before release, I could already tell Crimson Desert was shaping up to be more of a technical demo than a fully realized game. That it would feel like an MMO in everything but name. That the story would barely be there. And people went for my throat over it. And I get it, when a game you’re excited about doesn’t meet expectations, it stings. But pretending criticism comes out of nowhere, or that people are just “hating,” isn’t helping anyone. A lot of us are just saying: manage your expectations. We literally had this debate weeks ago: does story matter in games? And yeah, gameplay is important. But for most players, no amount of systems or content will keep them around if there’s no story to anchor it. If anything, this should be a reminder that hype culture is toxic, for players and studios. Because when something looks too good to be true… it usually is.

@wiseASDF @RobinPoedev @adventuresofteo Ugly or beautiful, this game is slop. Underwhelming intro with your first mission is to arm wrestle. Random NPC is like hey cook my fish even tho I'm a butcher. So many useless mechanics. AC Antiquity trilogy did it better.

I just want people to acknowledge how ugly this game looks

@xShephardx Maybe, I haven't played the game yet, but it seems to be you just decide he is a bad character because my guess is you have played with him for like 2h. But if you don't connect with him it is fair, it is preferences.

I think i seen enough, im going to drop Crimson Desert for now, i actually really like it but im gonna wait in the hope they add a character creator and the option to change the controls at least, not a bad game but something im definitely in no rush to play at its current state.

@ChevalierRequin No, half of everyone else is refunding (100K player count dropped off from 200K+ btw) because the controls are garbage and the story doesn’t even exist

Wow who could’ve predicted that Crimson Desert would be an extremely vast, contextless tech demo ocean with the depth of a puddle and absolutely nothing interesting beyond its scale.

@JustLloyd5 @lastchalice The combat in nioh2 is amazing but the characters and story were non-existent and the level design was mediocre at best. LoP had awesome characters, great story and great combat with ok level design. They average the same. I don't disagree with inflated scores but it deserved it.

@wiseASDF @lastchalice You just lost all credibility with that one. N2's depth of combat and replay value easily puts in a different tier than LoP. This is why I always say these inflated numbers make no sense because when a game that actually deserves 90 shows up, it has to stand next to mediocrity.

Video game critic scores are rarely wrong. Nine out of ten times the score is within 10 points of where I’d place it on a 100 point scale. It’s popular to say “I don’t trust critic scores” but I find them more often than not intelligent, experienced & most importantly valuable.

@JustLloyd5 @lastchalice I mean, I just said where nioh2 goes, next to LoP and 88 as well. Nioh2 might be my favourite soulslike but the story and characters are abysmal. So they keep it down from a 92, personally.
