@thestate The tradition of cooking whole pigs was brought to the Carolina’s from the Caribbean in the 1700s.
German/Czech immigrants introduced smoking techniques to beef in TX in 19th/20th century.
I love a good brisket, but BBQ in USA is pork based, and hash is king.
@thestate It’s a terrific barbecue restaurant in South Carolina that sells Texas BBQ
Everyone knows that Scott’s in Hemingway is the best barbecue restaurant in South Carolina. Maybe in the world
@thestate Love all these comments “it’s not South Carolina BBQ.” Correct. It’s Texas style bbq- which is objectively superior to other forms of BBQ. Might not be regionally traditional, but the flavors reign supreme and it’s been proven over and over.
@thestate It’s a TX brisket joint ran by a NY transplant. And he has a cow head mural on the wall that says “all hell the king”. Talk about a tone deaf yankee. Plus the shit is way overpriced, let’s be honest it’s smoked meats for hipsters and yankee transplants
@thestate We've got Dreamland here in Tuscaloosa for good ribs. The best BBQ in town is the motorcycle club at the Masonic Lodge. Smoked Ribs, Hams, Butt, and Turkey. Their Pigsickle is an excellent Carolina sauce. Nobody eats that Alabama white sauce crap.
