@memorynguwi Here is what happened to civilisations that had the same idea - defund baby making in the interest of equity. Society suffers in the long run through low birth rates. You can never go wrong as a society as long as you are producing babies. ec.europa.eu/eurostat/web/p…

In Zimbabwe, and in many other jurisdictions, employers provide benefits based on personal circumstances that have nothing to do with the job. School fees and medical aid are clear examples. Yes, eligibility may start with grade as a first filter, but what follows is where the problem begins. Once employees qualify, the benefit is then applied based on personal circumstances. One employee gets school fees support because they have children. Another, in the same role or grade, gets nothing because they do not have kids going to school. The organisation may call this cost saving, but it exposes a deeper issue. Why should a benefit depend on whether someone has children? The same applies to medical aid. Those who are married and have children benefit more because they can fully utilise dependent cover, while others in the same role receive less overall value. It means the organisation is effectively rewarding personal circumstances instead of work. @ipcconsultants

@memorynguwi Look at it differently. Industry and commerce generally benefits from more customers, there is no better source than babies. School fees supports creation of more babies. If all companies did same support we get a workforce where having babies is supported.

@memorynguwi Such adjustments are one reason why our birth rates are going down. The person with kids now has a smaller disposable income compared to those without, yet such a person is generally a bigger spender and better customer for such companies. I will support fees benefit any day.

A commonly debated issue is the fairness of how school fees benefits are distributed. Many companies tie this benefit solely to employees who have school-aged children, leaving out equally qualified employees without children. This approach can feel unjust, as it effectively penalizes those who don’t happen to have kids, despite performing at the same level as their peers. Some forward-thinking companies have recognized this inequity. They offer the school fees allowance to all eligible employees based on their job level, regardless of their parental status. By doing so, they ensure that the benefit is applied consistently and fairly across the workforce. @ipcconsultants

@memorynguwi It's not true that we would have preselected candidate. Interviewing is costly, why spend on it if target is known? We genuinely seek best candidate. It is candidates who are poorly prepared and don't perform well who see shadows where there are none.

Good morning. A general observation from social media posts is that many people feel job interviews in Zimbabwe are often conducted as a mere formality. The belief is that hiring managers and HR professionals usually have a pre-selected candidate, either an internal employee or someone chosen externally, often influenced by nepotism. This perception is particularly directed at HR professionals. What are your thoughts on this? @ipcconsultants

Dropped a few tears from the last episode of The Grand Tour: One for road. Loved the Zimbabwe scenes, many familiar places featured.

@memorynguwi Most strategies are reported as failures by new consultants seeking jobs or new leaders seeking relevance. Reality is strategy gives you targets to aim, direction to go. There is more success in movement towards the goal, than hitting of the bulls eye.

@memorynguwi Depends on whether surbodinate sees themselves as employee or co-entrepreneur. Employees will switch off, entrepreneurs work as and when needed to meet goals.

I am at a conference where a participant has asked if its proper for a boss to text subordinates after work hours? In some instances subordinates receive messages midnight. Work colleagues also do the same. What are your views?

@memorynguwi The idea of the fees benefit is for the total cost to have greater impact. Instead of giving to everyone, only give to those who need at greater value. It's same principle why employer funeral cover pays on actual death, or training benefit when one actually takes the training

The School fees benefit. The practice of employers providing a school fees benefit based on having school-going children raises concerns about fairness and sustainability. While it aims to support employees financially, it may exclude those without children in school and lack flexibility for changing circumstances.
