@SoLInTheWild The one wall decor I do, without fail, is the WALL OF FAME. It holds the graduation announcements I receive each spring from my high school and college seniors.

I was recently in a “PD” on being trauma-informed and the presenters said if your walls are bare and the room is cold and sterile students will not feel safe or welcome. Next, they advised us to put up posters for anything and everything students may need to reference or know during the day. Finally, they recommended having every student bring in a family picture to hang up. I have over 100 students. As an act of defiance and civil disobedience, I proceeded to go to my room and take down one of my few remaining posters.

Schools need to be reminded that PARENTS have the ultimate authority over their children, if I don’t want my child there that day, THAT IS AN EXCUSED ABSENCE! Because I excused it, I don’t need permission from a doctor, a superintendent, or nobody for that matter. I’ll take them out of that school as quickly as I put them into it. If I want my child to be home, or I feel they need a break, or I want to take them on a trip. You can send their work home for the week. I think what children are learning at home, and outside of the classroom is equally as important as the fundamentals. I’m not going to surrender my children’s youth & their most influential years entirely to a school system! If they can’t accommodate that then so be it, I can teach my children how to read, and write & how to do math myself! The only benefit of a classroom is the interaction with other children & teachers, but as soon as that becomes contrary or in opposition to what I am teaching my children, or desire for them, It’s time for homeschooling! Don’t send me letters about attendance, or anything else for that matter! The school will never determine or dictate my children’s schedule. Because THEY are on MINE!

@nikos366468 @JohnBaldLangLit @nickimoraa When I teach in front of students I can verbally provide instructions, show examples, show a supporting video. Then give an assign. & walk around the room providing assistance. If a student is absent, I have to write the detailed instr., post the video, & assist upon return.

@DL_Pool @gingerfiest @FixingEducation The median salary for teachers in Oklahoma per Google and AI is $47-49K so if you've been teaching for 20 years under $50K, then maybe you should move to OKC or drive door dash and Uber Eats. Nevertheless, your gross daily rate is $270 / day so you're not doing awful relatively

@educator4ever36 I imagine all the students being of similar intelligence, skill, and motivation. This would make for such a great learning opportunity.

This is the future of education for many and I think it’s an amazing option in school choice.

@lanebrown_3 @dylantbrown Because there are so many opportunities to reference Bible verses in Computer Science class! There have been days we are completely unable to finish our lesson because we didn’t have a Bible readily available. 🙄

Just FYI - Bibles are still allowed in schools. That’s been OK law before Walters. He mandated every class have one, spent nearly $25,000 on Trump Bibles, and tried getting $6 million from lawmakers for more.

It’s 2025 and I actually have parents trying to defend pulling their child out of school for a vacation. I get a death. I get granny is turning 100 and lives out of state. But to get a cheaper vacation- nope. Can’t ever support that.

Talking about payroll in Math of Finance. Students don’t know how many days are in each month. Taught them the knuckle trick…if they remember nothing else this year they will remember this!

@iAnonPatriot I’m 62 and a high school teacher. As much as I love my job and the students, I’m exhausted by the end of the day and almost incapable of functioning (mentally and physically) by Friday evening. I’m not sure I’ll even make it to 65.

I subbed at a middle school last year that had not a single math teacher in the 8th grade. The students were supervised by a para and watched a teacher online. It was horrific.
