You don't understand American sports viewership, MLB viewership is centralized more locally, while NBA is national, due to bandwagons, half the teams tanking/unwatchable. So not counting Toronto fans for MLB views makes 0 sense

It's always good to have nuance in these viewership discussions. The NBA did have higher Opening Night viewership but one MLB game was in the afternoon facing other games and the other was going against the Sweet 16. I think that's important context when comparing viewership.

At the same time, the NBA is about to make a handful of panic rule changes b/c the current sport is unwatchable. Half the league, including play-in teams, have been tanking to improve their lottery odds for months 4/4

So I'm confident any future rules will be fairly seamless. I think Manfred has done as well as he can given he is basically an employee of the 30 owners, 3/4

I think an advantage baseball had was that, for a lot of structural reasons, it was the first sport to optimize for winning over entertainment, feel the backlash, and then let that guide them in fixing stuff their fans didn’t like. Now the NBA is where MLB was a decade ago.

A significant reason MLB is passing the NBA in relevance is the fact that MLB is embracing its own existential weirdness and the NBA is trying to create a cheap imitation of Euro soccer traditions.

@zarniev @sportsontvguy Don't know what you're looking at but 2024 was LA vs NY and 2025 was still had way more viewers, you are just wrong on the numbers. Also the NBA is losing viewers b/c it is a less enjoyable watch than a decade ago

This a HR nightmare. Plus Im sure his contract had language that permits this. He can be a Christian and not like gays his beliefs

MLB set 9yr records for views while competing with March Madness, NBA is panicking to change rules so more than 16 teams actually try to win

Respectfully disagree on this one a bit. Jack wasn’t really erratic after the 1st inning, but the Zone% is so low due to the Orioles hitters expanding the zone quite a bit in the 3rd and 4th innings. Fastball command definitely does need to be cleaned up a bit going forward, but tonight was definitely more a case of just letting hitters chase good pitches out of the zone than it was poor command.

Jack Leiter enjoyed his 2026 debut with 8 K and 2 ER over 6.0 IP He shied away from his fastball, leaning heavily on his entire arsenal to tear through Orioles bats. He was a bit erratic with a 39.1 Zone%, but had no issues racking up chases and whiffs. The stuff is pristine!
