@Rezus1991 @Snefer @TheTrue_Seal Yup. Ue base significance is subpar and you still have to dev your system reactions to it down the road. There’s no simple tick aggregation system and crowd is meh at best. You do have update rate optimization but that’s far off what’s required for a crowd like unity.

Over a decade later, people still debate whether Assassin's Creed Unity was the last true AC game or simply a disaster, but most ignore the fact that its tech was years ahead of its time. Take how the system handles NPCs for example. It's not just about a bunch of random NPCs popping in. The engine is constantly calculating your distance to every person in the street to swap how they act. Up close, they're "real NPCs" who react to what you're doing but as you get further away, their behavior merges into one giant, simplified group to save performance. I built this visualization to show exactly how the system handles NPCs in real time.

[Demo link below] (ssgi noise free) Tried with poisson blur (inspired by n8ao) but honestly I prefer the bilateral blur im using, rendered to low res and upscaled (I added both in the demo btw). I was able to get good performance and keep good quality. I used my ipad for performance test, it usually gets hot but it's cool as mfer now. #threejs #webgpu #ts

I can’t express deeply enough how sad and disappointed this statement makes me. It isn’t human. It isn’t humane. It is mechanical mouth-washing to try to eliminate the bad taste of what happened. Massive ran into trouble and had to let people go. And this statement belittles the people affected.

@thomasbrushdev I believe 1440p is slowly becoming the norm ? Might be wrong but if I get a game on high setting 60fps on a 1440p am happy (3090) Also steam deck medium setting 45fps is becoming my go to :D

At 4k, the Twisted Tower demo is running.... not amazing. For some with mid range to decent gaming hardware, they are getting 30 or less FPS. What do you think: do gamers expect this, or should it run at 4k, 60fps and silky smooth out of the box? I'm considering 1080p as the default simply because it runs silky smooth with no huccups at 1080p.

Overall, my assessment (for what it’s worth) of the game industry is publishers and AAA are taking a beating. If you’re a self publishing indie though, it seems things are potentially looking bright. For one, if you wanna self publish, just keep grabbing those wishlists and if you’re low budget you can still make a living (if not great money!) If you’re one day going to want a publisher, keep chugging along with development and my hope is this bubble pops, the dust settles, and the publishers that survive are worth looking into. What do you guys think?
