1) Two age peaks: a fascinating paper confirmed two peaks for when people get ME/CFS: around 16 years old and in the mid thirties. The early onset in adolescence was associated with severe ME/CFS, an infectious onset, and having relatives with the disease. A brief summary...

Characterizing a patient's immunome might make misdiagnosing autoimmune diseases a thing of the past. Here are the results of this exciting discovery. \ The Discovery: Combining DNA sequencing with artificial intelligence, Stanford scientists identified with near 99% accuracy which of the 593 blood donors in their study had: - been recently vaccinated for the flu - Type 1 Diabetes - COVID-19 - Lupus - HIV or were healthy controls. \ DNA Sequencing and AI: They did this by training a machine learning framework using the DNA sequence of genes that encode the following from patients with known immunological states: - B cell receptors (BCR) - T cell receptors (TCR) - CD3 (helps activate T cells) It seems like only 3 genes are being analyzed. However, there are tens of thousands of unique BCR and TCR genes in your blood (~1 unique DNA sequence per T and B cell). The snapshot of different BCR and TCR combinations can inform a pre-trained machine learning framework of the patient's immunological state with nearly 99% accuracy. \ Potential Benefits: Scientists could theoretically train this technology to find BCR and TCR sequence patterns in other difficult-to-diagnose conditions, including but not limited to: - Autoimmune forms of arthritis - Autoimmune encephalitis - PANDAS/PANS - Sjogren's - Lupus - MS - etc. This could: - improve patient outcomes - save billions in healthcare costs - take the guesswork out of specific diagnoses IF this technology becomes mainstream, it won’t happen overnight. More data, research, and grit are needed to extend this to the full spectrum of diseases we care about. If you found this informative, please give it a like and share! Mood changes aren’t always “just mental health." Sometimes they're rooted in infection and inflammation. 🧠 Join the @BrainInflCollab for a webinar on March 26 to explore how conditions like PANS, Long COVID, ME/CFS, Chronic Lyme, and other chronic illness conditions impact mood and behavior, and why these symptoms often don’t respond to traditional treatments. Colorectal cancer is one of the most diagnosed cancers among Veterans, that’s why VA made colorectal screening easier than ever for Veterans to access either at home or in a VA facility. No matter how you get screened, the most important step is to do it. Talk with your VA care provider about the options that are right for you.

A fellow youth advocate gave me this bracelet, and I wear it with pride alongside my badge. Thank you Lily! On tough night shifts in the busy Cardiac PCU, it quietly reminds me to keep going. Most people don’t notice it, but last night, a patient did. She was in the hospital for another reason, but she also lives with chronic pain. She told me that seeing my bracelet brought her comfort. That meant a lot to me. It showed me that advocacy can happen in small ways, helping someone feel safe, understood, and less alone. I’m still not sure exactly where my path is going, but I know I’m learning to be a better advocate for patients at the bedside. Moments like this remind me why that’s important. By mid-May, I’ll have finished one part of this journey!

Brain scans in ME/CFS and Long COVID have found changes in glutamate and GABA, the chemicals that control brain activity. Multiple studies now suggest disrupted excitation and inhibition may be linked to brain fog, fatigue, and sensory symptoms. Let’s breakdown in simple terms.
