@HackneyYIMBY While I generally get riled up about lack of residential house building, think the Moth Club (and those who evidently enjoy it) has a fair point; under current regulations on noise, this is basically a recipe for disaster; a 100% commercial wouldnt be a problem

'A planning application for a building next to Hackney’s Moth Club has been refused by Hackney Council. The proposal for six residential flats and a ground floor commercial building.. next to the historic venue would have seriously threatened its future' timeout.com/london/news/ic…

Apparently another application has been submitted for the adjacent site. (The Moth Club has launched a petition opposing the proposals which already has almost 5,500 signatures!)

Update: The planning app to build a 3-storey house to the rear of 119 Church Street has been refused 'due to its size, scale and design harming the Stoke Newington Conservation Area, substandard living space, impact on neighbours, loss of storage space without justification...'
Stokey Updates@StokeyUpdates

A planning application is in place (expiring on 28 January 2026) for the construction of a three-storey, three-bedroom house on Merton Road, located to the rear of 119 Stoke Newington Church Street -> developmentandhousing.hackney.gov.uk/planning/index…

@Mr_Rafal @TfL @hackneycouncil I walked passed it a couple of days ago and it was permanently red for traffic, until a car approached then it would turn green, then immediately back to permanent red once it passed. Might this be a new setting for lights adjacent to schools?

Hey @TfL are you going to fix the pedestrians crossing lights by stormont school E58NP? They are not on your reporting system somehow. They change without being pressed. Also, @hackneycouncil downs road during school pick ups is an absolute mayhem and dangerous to kids

This is very interesting on the politics of housing. There are few housing policies that are retail politics but Haringey's successful upwards extensions policy is one! Haringey introduced a rule for a small area of the borough that allows residents to add 1.5 storeys onto their home. For the many families who did it, it means an extra 3 bedrooms and bathroom! The uptake has been phenomenal - one count puts it at a 60% adoption in the small collection of streets that are allowed. Now, Hackney is also working on a similar scheme but residents want the policy to be done at a quicker pace. An extra few bedrooms is transformative for living standards if you're overcrowded. The last I heard local politicians have spotted the opportunity and are speaking to various community leaders about their support...

Told about Greens in the borough of Hackney discussing all sorts of un- environmental deals with sections of the community in regards to planning proposals. Some suggestion this is being done in cooperation with Conservatives. TBH, I’m confused. Get in touch if you can explain
