@revpaulwhite I'm an. Atheist and impressed. To have a 'western' religious leader be so clear about right and wrong is really painting the fake bible study sessions in the Oval Office as what they are.

@CatholicPods For Marcion, the problem is the god of the Jews rather than Jews themselves. For Tertullian et al., the problem is indeed the Jews, not their God, whom Christians share. Supersessionism is not Marcionism.

There is no resurgence of Marcionism on the trad side of things. Even among Catholics who are genuinely antisemitic, I have never heard one say that the Old Testament has nothing to do with the New or that it is no longer relevant. And Catholics who are legitimately critical of Judaism are far more in tune with the Old Testament than the dual covenant people. The only Catholics I have encountered who seem like Marcionists are progressives who contrast the Old Testament and New Testament God on a moral level.

It seems @BishopBarron is doing his part to implement @BishopBambera’s memo contra @CarriePrejean1, specifically, “God’s covenant with the Jewish people has not been revoked, but continues”: x.com/JendersII/stat… Not surprising at all, in light of what he told @benshapiro in 2018: youtube.com/watch?v=nsp49X… Video source: youtube.com/live/3CzsmPQEb…

@TaylorRMarshall @FredSimonTLM Is that the church's official position. Or yours? What about Orthodox or conservative anglican prayer? Still not acceptable to you, and the prayer police?

On Catholics praying with Non-Catholics: Code of Canon Law 1917: Canon 1258 § 1. It is not lawful for the faithful in any manner to assist actively at or to take part in the sacred rites of non-Catholics. § 2. Passive or merely material presence can be tolerated for the sake of honor or civil office, for a grave reason approved by the bishop in case of doubt, at the funerals, weddings, and similar solemnities of non-Catholics, provided there is no danger of perversion [of the faith] or scandal.

@SubRosaMagick All except for the last two, and I do it on purpose. I also have a note on my phone of “old terms to bring back”. Some old words/terms/slang have been all but lost, and are gems that deserve to be reincorporated into our vernacular.

Harvard faculty report that they've had to "trim some readings and drop others entirely, switch from novels to short stories, and that it’s difficult to keep assigning reading in the face of increasing student complaints."

Holy Week is about to begin. Growing up, these posters were a common sight in windows. England needs a return to an unapologetic, everyday, commonplace Christianity.

@0ccultbot Ostara was invented by Jacob Grimm in 1835. There is no evidence naming "Ostara" independent of his hypothesis. The Old High German name for April was Ôstarmânoth. Anglo-Saxons had Eosturmonath after Eostre. Grimm speculated that there had to have been a German goddess Ostara.

Many of the symbols of Ostara (pronounced Oh-star-ah) are also common to Easter. The Christian Easter has roots in the Pagan Ostara.

@GenoVeno73 @lavern_spicer Here is all the evidence about Eostre: "Eosturmonath has a name which is now interpreted as 'Paschal month', and which was once called after a goddess of theirs named Eostre, in whose honor feasts were celebrated in that month." No bunny, fertility, or eggs.

@GenoVeno73 @lavern_spicer Centuries before it was called "Easter," the anniversary of the Resurrection was celebrated as Pascha in Latin, Greek, and Romance languages. The name "Easter" has a linguistic link to the name of an obscure goddess. She appears in a single sentence from Bede.

Liberals say aint no Easter eggs in the Bible. Aint no bunny rabbits in the Bible. Aint no little yellow chicks in the Bible. Know what else aint in the Bible? TRANS PEOPLE. Because God didn’t make none. He made MAN AND WOMAN and nothing else. Today is EASTER SUNDAY, the day we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the King of Kings. NOBODY ELSE. Y’all can celebrate Transgender Day of Visibility tomorrow. On April Fools’ Day. It’ll make more sense then.

@hoorayforeric @_Isabel_C @DavidFischer According to Bede (725), the word Easter is linked to Ēosturmōnaþ ("Eostre month") after a goddess named Eostre, in whose honor feasts were celebrated in that month. That's it. Any further claims about Eostre are rooted in modern imagination.

@kalezelden Catholic high schools at that time were starting to be staffed more by lay teachers than priests and religious. Lay teachers, supporting families, needed to be paid (a little) more than those who took a vow of poverty. Tuition went up.

@dezziefbaybee @poe_collector I don't like that Grammerly makes suggestions that are not simply to correct errors. Accepting such suggestions changes one's writing style and authorial voice. Written language gets flattened and homogenized.

@BishopJaxi Historically, the Catholic Chirch murdered those that tried to bring scripture to the people in their native language. This is well understood history.

Whenever you see someone claim they were a "former Catholic" and then say something like, "As a Catholic, I grew up being taught I did not need to read the Bible," just know one of two things is happening... Either they are blatantly lying about Catholicism, or they were so culturally Catholic and so badly catechized that they never actually practiced the faith they now pretend to critique. The Catholic Church urges the faithful to read Sacred Scripture regularly and often. So anyone claiming Catholicism teaches people not to read the Bible is ignorant, dishonest, or both.
