Steve Forte read an advanced copy of Advantage Player. In his review he wrote, “This book is a significant contribution to gambling literature.” This was 2 days ago and I’m still speechless over it. It’s the first time I thought I might actually have written a really good book.

Quickest way to find out if some is a liar is to ask them if they beat MLB sides and totals. If they say yes you know they are a liar

Am I the only one that didn’t know that FIFA changed the first tiebreaker to H2H this year and not goal differential? This is gonna lead to a bunch of good teams clinching after 2 games, resting starters, and gifting teams wins/ties in the 3rd game and that affects everyone.

@SamENole @eddiemikus There’s a big difference between advancing first and second. 1st place gets a much easier round of 32 match. I don’t expect any teams to rest starters in game 3.

Because it affects everyone else in the entire field doing it that way. In the past Mexico would be forced to play starters in game 3 or risk losing to South Korea on goal differential. Now they can rest everyone and not have to worry about it. That leads to Czechia getting an advantage playing a much weaker Mexico solely because they play them 3rd and not 1st/2nd. And with half the 3rd place teams advancing Czechia could very well advance with a win that they otherwise would’ve never gotten ahead of a team that is much more deserving. It’s a terrible change.

@reggie_1111 @Kante_Bets I didn't write about it, and I won't. This will make it easier for me to deal with them if I have other disputes. I'd love to hear about your story.

I wrapped up an arbitration with Fliff, and am now looking at a dispute with Prize Picks. I'm curious if anyone in gambling community has ever had winnings confiscated by Prize Picks?

@tangotiger In a heads-up game, I'll go with A -- consistency. In a larger field, variance is needed, B is better. Without doing the work, I think A is a favorite vs B heads-up, but B has a larger chance to win with lots of players.

@d_feustel How many free throws you think made under pressure like this?

The biggest argument for clutch existing is the free throws at the end of this game. Clearly pressure had an impact. If there is an impact, it impacts players differently. How much we can predict that? Another Q entirely. But hard to argue doesn't exist IMO.

I guess a bit of a strawman here as people prob don't say it has no impact, but think pretty obvious composure/"clutch" had HUGE impact down the stretch of this game and series.

@FezzikSports Plenty of people self exclude even with this. And it absolutely reduces relapses.

No It is a good take. As you indicated, if someone is an addicted gambler, you should give them EVERY reason to self exclude. Why would you have a rule (forfeit all future jackpots) that might discourage them to self exclude.
Elihu D Feustel@d_feustel

@FezzikSports This is a terrible take, Fezzik. If someone is a gambling addict, self-exclusion makes it much less likely that he or she relapses. There is no good gambling outcome ever for an addict. If they do win a jackpot, they will lose it in short order and fuel the addiction.

@rm99865 @FezzikSports Most heavy gamblers use a player's card, and the staff recognizes these players. 10% of players account for 90% of casino income, and this is the segment benefiting most from self-exclusion.

@d_feustel @FezzikSports If they're truly addicted they're probably not thinking logically. The lists are stupid. There's no way it can be enforced unless specific casinos know the person just based on seeing them but then they'll just go to another casino.

There is a rule that any Gambler who is on a Self Exclusion List that hits a jackpot cannot be paid. This could be THE worst rule EVER So people with a gambling problem that cannot stop basically 1) Can keep sneaking in and playing but 2) If by some MIRACLE they hit big, they forfeit the jackpot.

YOUR MISSING THE POINT. ONLY a dummy would self exclude if there was a chance they would lapse.... Why would you EVER give an addicted gambler a reason to NOT self exclude???
Elihu D Feustel@d_feustel

@FezzikSports If they know this, does it make it easier not to play?

I once brought a lawsuit against Harrahs for sending marketing materials and letting a self-excluded gambler play and lose 100's of K's. Indiana said you can't sue when a casino solicits a self-excluded problem gambler. And IGC did nothing. 22 years ago, still feels wrong. caselaw.findlaw.com/court/in-court…

@rxgamble @capjack2000 If I were defending a casino, and I knew the trespasser was a professional player, I could probably win on defense of civil trespass. A mistake of law (I didn't know Bally's and Caesars were under same ownership) isn't typically allowed as a defense.

@capjack2000 @d_feustel Even if you don’t feign ignorance, if trespassed by the casino, go back in, win… you’re entitled to those winnings afaik unless you signed something saying otherwise.

@capjack2000 @rxgamble If the exclusion is after the win, yes. If you are excluded and return to the property, you can't cash a win if the casino opposes it.

@rxgamble @d_feustel I should clarify that if you are involuntarily excluded, it's not the same thing. In that case, you are entitled to the money (still can't ask for losses back though). Forfeited winnings go to the state.
