A massive protest by a labour union in Noida demanding a salary hike turned violent on Monday, with agitated workers engaging in arson, stone-pelting, and vandalizing cars. The demonstration began in the Hosiery Complex in Noida Phase 2, where workers assembled outside the company premises demanding a pay hike. However, the situation soon spiralled out of control, with protesters allegedly vandalizing vehicles and properties and pelting stones during clashes with the police. A car was also set on fire amid the chaos, further intensifying tensions. Incidents of arson were also reported, particularly in Sector 84 of Phase 1, where at least two vehicles were set ablaze. Protests further spread to Sector 62, amplifying unrest across multiple industrial zones. The company whose employees are staging the violent protests in Noida is Staunch Electronics. Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh- Asiv Khan, took a teenage girl who was his neighbour to a hotel under the guise of buying her pizza in Sep 2024. Once there, Asiv Khan mixed an intoxicating substance into the pizza and fed it to her. Subsequently, while the girl was in an unconscious state, he sexually assaulted her and threatened to kill her if she revealed the incident to anyone. NOIDA, UP, labour unrest- Violent protest over wages in Noida on Monday, over 40,000 factory workers participated. The protest across 80 locations in the city - triggered by the Haryana government's decision to hike the minimum pay - took a violent turn when the protesters set vehicles and properties on fire, and threw stones during an altercation with the police in Noida's Phase-2 and Sector 63. By evening, over 300 protesters were arrested under preventive provisions for arson and vandalism, while more than 100 were detained for questioning. As the Haryana government raised minimum wages for unskilled, semi-skilled, skilled and highly-skilled workers by 35 per cent, those in Noida questioned why they must work for less pay. According to the factory workers, the companies they work for are not paying them as per the minimum wages laid down by the central government. The low wages and poor working conditions forced them to hit the streets, they said. Investigators have begun probing several WhatsApp groups that allegedly played a role in spreading misinformation and provoking unrest. Police have also detained five to six suspects believed to be directly responsible for setting vehicles on fire. Officials said the arson was carried out in a highly organised way, suggesting a deeper conspiracy behind the unrest. Initial findings indicate that ultra-left elements allegedly infiltrated the workers' protest and pushed it towards violent escalation. These people are suspected of provoking the crowd, attacking police personnel and damaging government vehicles. While her relative stepped away briefly to have a snack, Sheikh Salman (29) kidnapped her from the Sirvel market area, in Khargone, Madhya Pradesh.
