Interestingly, on 2 May 2026, the EU Ambassador to Somalia, Francesca Di Mauro, referred to Hassan Sheikh as “President.” Yet today, 16 May 2026, she noticeably avoided using the title altogether. This signals growing diplomatic caution around the question of legitimacy and mandate expiration for the Presidency. We already know the pattern that tends to follow political uncertainty in #Somalia: 1. Increasing foreign pressure 2. Calls for mediation and “inclusive dialogue 3. Eventually outside actors attempting to shape the direction of Somali politics 4. Sanctions or other forms of pressure kick in. This is exactly the kind of external meddling in Somali affairs that many warned could happen if the constitutional and political crisis was not resolved internally ⤵️
