I barely finished the 9th lap in 59 minutes. Did the first mile in 18 minutes. Need 14:30/mile to make it on time. So I put the fuck out. 37.5 miles total. But I’m done now. I learned something about myself out there on that final lap. I know who the fuck I am.

My wife and I met in high school, went through college together, got married, got our big kid jobs, and bought our house. You know, all the normal stuff. Small issues here and there from life stress. But nothing major. After we had kids, it was rough. I felt lost and frustrated. Nothing I did was right. I never knew what to do. We weren’t talking. When we were talking, I was either short or loud or angry. I was working all the time. Sometimes sitting at the office at night because it was quiet, and I was alone. In summary, I was not showing up as the husband and father I was meant to be. The way I was showing up had us on a trajectory to disaster. It was a rough couple years for me. For us. Even now, when my oldest acts out, a part of me wonders how much of my imperfections and struggles in those early years he is now carrying. I sought out guidance. I asked for help. I admitted that I was not enough. I understand so much more now. I was asking my wife to validate me and in turn robbing her of her security. I was avoiding parenting because it was hard. It was hard because I was being asked to give something that I was not given. I was ignoring my wife's requests for help. She was talking, but I wasn't listening. Coming out of that and then understanding how prevalent, yet silent, these problems are for men. Thats why I’ve spent years now learning more about people and relationships and women and marriage and parenting. It's not rocket science. I promise ever guy out there is capable of showing up. All you have to do is commit. Learn how to communicate, control your emotions, and listen. Your whole life can change. I got out and I want other guys to get out.

Soaking up the last day of our honeymoon! It's been eventful . . . • Found myself in the emergency room on Day 1 after falling face first down a flight of stairs. (Somehow the impact didn't break my wrist or elbow - I can still type! 🤓) • Saw a shark. We think. Or a tuna? Either way, it looked like this: 🦈 • Read a James Patterson book and discovered many techniques on how to write stories more concisely. Anyway, talk soon!
