The Australian government just arrested our most decorated veteran from the Afghanistan War for alleged war crimes. Ben Roberts-Smith was awarded the Victoria Cross for Australia after singlehandedly storming two Taliban machine gun positions by himself in order to save his own SAS team. And this is how we repay him. I spoke to an Australian Afghan war veteran who told me that the Australian government literally paid for billboards in Afghanistan offering to pay random Afghans to come forward with war crime allegations. What country on Earth would do this to itself? Tell me: When does the Taliban plan on holding war crimes tribunals into their own people? When do the Taliban plan on holding themselves accountable for terrorism? Absolutely retarded to purge your own men when fighting a brutal barbaric enemy that respects no rules whatsoever. Algorithmically-curated dating apps have engineered a generational mismatch in romantic expectations that mirrors the worst dynamics of winner-take-all markets and positional goods inflation. Traditional courtship was bounded by geography, social circles, and time, forcing realistic self-assessment and holistic evaluation of partners across sustained interaction. Swipe-based platforms obliterated those constraints, collapsing all of human mate selection into a single ranked marketplace where hypergamy, the female preference for partners of equal or higher status, now operates without friction or limit. The data is not subtle: the top 20% of men on these platforms receive roughly 80% of female attention, a Gini-coefficient-level concentration of desire that has no precedent in the history of human courtship. Those men rationally respond to sudden abundance by abandoning commitment entirely, because the incentive to settle has been structurally demolished. At the same time, women who periodically access that top tier, regardless of how briefly or on what terms, permanently recalibrate their expectations upward, pricing themselves out of the realistic market of men who would have made them genuinely happy. Neither group is acting irrationally given the incentives presented to them, which is precisely what makes this so damaging: the apps have not corrupted individual character so much as they have poisoned the entire coordination mechanism through which generations of ordinary people found lasting partnership. The consequence is not a dating culture that is merely unsatisfying. It is one that is structurally incapable of producing the outcomes most of its participants actually want.

They are VERY top-heavy, and lower-ranking officers have zero independence.

My small observation is that in the US military, autonomy and responsibility are pushed WAY down the chain of command. This results in an unequalled ability to adapt and improvise. The amount of freedom to act I had as a 26 year old aircraft commander has no parallel in the civilian world that I know of.

The most interesting aspect of the weapons officer rescue in Iran was CENTCOM's ability to use so many disparate personnel and capabilities in such a rapid and integrated way. They were making it up as they went along with complex tools and time critical sequences. There is a saying that bureaucracies, including militaries, are like jukeboxes. They have routines and can only play from the list. In situations like this there is no relevant record in the jukebox. You have to improvise the new tune from fragments of songs. There were so many ways to get this wrong and only a few ways to walk away with no KIA. A lot of the news focus is naturally on the machines, because that is what you can see. But someone told me years ago that air forces are not made out of planes. They are made up of people, and that is what we glimpsed here.

I’m up in the middle of the night and am about to go back to sleep. But seeing the news of this pilot being rescued after one of the most daring rescue operations in history has me motivated beyond belief.
To the media and the haters who’ve been obsessed with palace intrigue stories. Trying to sow division and calling for the heads of our leaders. I hope this news hurts. I hope it hurts a lot.
I have my finger on the pulse of the information machine these days. And what I’ve seen over the past 48 hours is the weaponization of said machine.
Bots, grifters, and partisan hacks all working in unison literally rooting for our failure. Rabid. Drooling. Damn near praying to satan for our own pilot to be killed or captured.
Hyenas, the lot of them. All cheering against America.
While they’ve all been groaning like demons for the heads of our leaders and warriors, people like @PeteHegseth, @SeanParnellASW and others have just been busily…. doing the job to get our guy back.
Nothing I type here will matter at 0300. But when the world wakes up in a few hours, it’ll see the fruits of merit based leadership at echelon. All the way down the chain.
An Airman safely home after evading capture for over a day. An epic rescue that will be remembered for generations. Millions inspired by the shear power and conviction of the United States military. And millions more disappointed by it, because they were praying for our national embarrassment.
I’m not sorry you’re witnessing a competent war machine in action.
I’m not sorry that our leadership will never leave anyone behind.
I’m not sorry for any hurt feelings caused by this.
Because you were never on our team anyway.
