The problem is that it’s highly unlikely any TV on a cart could be connected to cable—what schools had cable in every room? And since it wasn’t broadcast live on networks except for a few stations in Florida, the school had to have either cable or satellite to see it. The estimate is that 2.5 million kids saw it live, out of 50 million in K-12 in 1986. Some people definitely did, but it was like 5% of students. Everyone else just remembers the wall-to-wall network coverage that began immediately after.

My best reverse-engineering of this situation: People who were 14, remember the teacher and the TV cart in school and all that, and then having to re-adjust, did see it live. Other people more likely than not saw a replay on the news.

99.9% of people who "experienced" the Challenger disaster saw it on replay and now remember it as live. Almost NO ONE was watching. Everyone thinks they were. It's a fascinating collective false memory.

Robert Mueller was one of the last well-dressed men in Washington. Soft shouldered suits with white button-down collar and foulard ties. Wore his watch on the underside of his wrist, as a holdover from his military training. One of the last to carry that classic American look.

Dear Transplants & Developers: These trees emit a foul odor to attract flies, their primary pollinators. Do not plant these stankin’ a$$ things in North Carolina. The proper way to deal with the Bradford Pear is not to plant them. It’s to chop them down and burn them with fire. Thank you, The Locals

@NeilWeinberg44 maybe just extend the deadline when something like this happens? easier than putting people in jail

I think something like a $50 million fine for withdrawing less than a full day before the deadline, with the ability to have it waived if you can show some new exigent circumstances that you couldn’t have known earlier.
Neil Weinberg@NeilWeinberg44

I’m not sure exactly how you would draft it, but we need a law that presumes a withdrawal this close to the deadline is illegitimate and the person doing it should face heavy civil or criminal sanctions.

It’s a legendary holiday for Alabama fans worldwide. Happy 2nd & 26 for those who celebrate! Best/first game ‘date’ with my gf (now my wife of almost 7 years). BOL members sharing memories: ➡️#post-182020949" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">on3.com/boards/threads… What’s yours?

Near a complete rest for Alabama offensive line. OL coach leaving, and six of seven players who started in 2025 are gone.

Congratulations to @SpeakerJohnson & the House. They have passed all of the appropriations bills in regular order. Given the small margins this is a feat, doing so should be the norm. Congress should continue to exert its legal authority & not do Continuing Resolutions or Omnibus Bills.

Texas Tech gets tricky on 4th and 2 from BYU's 14. Behren Morton looking for a DPI call in the end zone and they don't get it. Turnover on downs. That's a big missed opportunity to make it a two-score game...

Wow, Alabama fell to No. 10, notably behind Notre Dame. Would be the last one in right now.

Someone has to ask DeBoer after the game whether that slip was indeed intentional.
