@BernieSanders it's not their job to be uncompetitive just to keep people employed. you aren't going to be a successful country for long if it's illegal to innovate and compete.

@SenThomTillis thank you for not being a coward. what they are putting Powell through is unAmerican

Kevin Warsh is a qualified nominee with a deep understanding of monetary policy. However, the Department of Justice continues to pursue a criminal investigation into Chairman Jerome Powell based on committee testimony that no reasonable person could construe as possessing criminal intent. Protecting the independence of the Federal Reserve from political interference or legal intimidation is non-negotiable.
My position has not changed: I will oppose the confirmation of any Federal Reserve nominee, including for the position of Chairman, until the DOJ’s inquiry into Chairman Powell is fully and transparently resolved.

TRUMP: POWELL KILLS EVERY MARKET RALLY
U.S. President Donald Trump said Tuesday that Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell “kills every rally,” arguing that interest rates should fall when strong economic data is released. Speaking at the Detroit Economic Club, Trump criticized Powell as inflexible and said he wants a Fed leader who lowers rates when markets are performing well.

@larry_kudlow shut up hack. he has been extremely competent and professional and you know it. your lack of integrity is embarrassing

Don't martyr Jerome Powell. He was a terrible Fed chair, but he's not a criminal. President Trump has made the U.S. the hottest economy in the world. That's the key point right now, not the cost of an old fed elevator.

Huge News! Today, I am proud to introduce the Greenland Annexation and Statehood Act, a bill that allows the President to find the means necessary to bring Greenland into the Union.
Let me be clear, our adversaries are trying to establish a foothold in the Arctic, and we can’t let that happen.
By acquiring Greenland, we would prevent our adversaries from controlling the Arctic Region and secure our northern flank from Russia and China.

The United States Attorney’s Office contacted the Federal Reserve on multiple occasions to discuss cost overruns and the chairman’s congressional testimony, but were ignored, necessitating the use of legal process—which is not a threat.
The word “indictment” has come out of Mr. Powell’s mouth, no one else’s. None of this would have happened if they had just responded to our outreach.
This office makes decisions based on the merits, nothing more and nothing less. We agree with the chairman of the Federal Reserve that no one is above the law, and that is why we expect his full cooperation.

@RepJohnRose this investigation is attempted intimidation plan and simple. daddy Powell isn't playing.

An independent Federal Reserve shouldn’t mean independent from accountability.
This DOJ inquiry isn’t about petty disagreements or interest rates. It’s about whether Fed Chair Powell lied to Congress about how $2.5 billion taxpayer dollars were being spent on renovating the agency’s headquarters.
Tennesseans don’t support paying for a VIP dining room, premium marble, water features, or a roof terrace garden – and they resent any attempt to cover up those expenses.
English

@lisamurkowski thank you. this nonsense needs to get called out by more conservatives. fed independence is what makes our markets and currency the most trusted.
English

After speaking with Chair Powell this morning, it’s clear the administration’s investigation is nothing more than an attempt at coercion. If the Department of Justice believes an investigation into Chair Powell is warranted based on project cost overruns—which are not unusual—then Congress needs to investigate the Department of Justice. The stakes are too high to look the other way: if the Federal Reserve loses its independence, the stability of our markets and the broader economy will suffer. My colleague, Senator Tillis, is right in blocking any Federal Reserve nominees until this is resolved.

@SenThomTillis based response. this is banana Republic shit. where are the rest of the real Republicans calling this out.
English

If there were any remaining doubt whether advisers within the Trump Administration are actively pushing to end the independence of the Federal Reserve, there should now be none. It is now the independence and credibility of the Department of Justice that are in question.
I will oppose the confirmation of any nominee for the Fed—including the upcoming Fed Chair vacancy—until this legal matter is fully resolved.

The Federal Reserve received grand jury subpoenas from the Justice Department on Friday that threaten a criminal indictment relating to Chair Jerome Powell’s testimony last summer about the central bank’s building renovation project Powell statement: federalreserve.gov/newsevents/spe…

One of the first actions taken by Canada’s new government in March 2025 was to impose additional sanctions on Nicolás Maduro’s brutally oppressive and criminal regime — unequivocally condemning his grave breaches of international peace and security, gross and systematic human rights violations, and corruption. Canada has not recognised the illegitimate regime of Maduro since it stole the 2018 election. The Canadian government therefore welcomes the opportunity for freedom, democracy, peace, and prosperity for the Venezuelan people.
Canada has long supported a peaceful, negotiated, and Venezuelan-led transition process that respects the democratic will of the Venezuelan people. In keeping with our long-standing commitment to upholding the rule of law, sovereignty, and human rights, Canada calls on all parties to respect international law. We stand by the Venezuelan people’s sovereign right to decide and build their own future in a peaceful and democratic society.
Canada attaches great importance to resolution of crises through multilateral engagement and is in close contact with international partners about ongoing developments. We are first and foremost ready to assist Canadians through our consular officials and our embassy in Bogotá, Colombia, and will continue to support Venezuelan refugees.

@TorontoStar no one is falling for this BS anymore. the era of Canadian businesses avoiding hiring Canadians at all costs is over.
LMIA is just a program abused by business by directly replacing locals with cheap exploitable foreign labor.
if your business fails, it fails. too bad.

@KristinRaworth @CoryBMorgan historically since when? where?
in Canada?
English

@CoryBMorgan Lunch programs have historically been a government function
English

What am I missing here? Isn’t it actually good to give children free lunch?
Jamil Jivani@jamiljivani
The federal government wants to be your daddy and buy your kids' lunch. The federal government should instead be building an economy where you can afford to buy your own kids' lunch. Tell me what you think: restorethenorth.ca/keepfighting

@liberal_party let me guess, you want the taxpayers to give you an even more insane amount of money instead of cutting programs that don't work
