After celebrating Portal North Bridge last week with a ceremonial trip on Thursday with @NJTRANSIT and its early entry into service on Friday, today marks the first official day trains are traveling over the new bridge. As our President, Roger Harris said, “You’ve heard about the benefits that this new bridge will bring for a more reliable trip, and now it’s finally time to start experiencing them.”

This bridge is a very good idea, but according to @beyonddc, the National Park Service won't allow a shade structure over the center portion traversing the George Washington Memorial Parkway. As a result, travelers will have their luggage soaked by DC's frequent thunderstorms and unnecessarily suffer from the region's brutal heat and humidity.

I think this is a big miss for GGW, whose content I usually love, even if AVs increase vehicle traffic as folks seek out a nicer, cheaper, private ride, and even if that makes folks abandon mass transit methods... a city filled with AVs will be so much safer for pedestrians and bikers than the maniac-driver-racetrack we get in DC today. And the smart way to make sure we don't end up with too many cars coming in is simply to do congestion pricing so that excess vehicle externalities are internalized to the people who really want to use these new AVs rather than take transit. Trying to stop that demand by outlawing the better services is regressive and dumb. Allow the better service and tax it to raise revenue for mass transit!

iykyk this is the real I-95 and we should stop pretending like it's not. Widening the elevated highway along the Delaware River in Philadelphia makes no sense.

Long Island is really the only place in the world where a strip mall, self-storage center, parking lot, and for-sale office building are served by trains that come every 15–20 minutes to/from the country’s largest economic center.

By 2030, “VRE expects to increase its current level of service of 32 daily trains to 52” including more reverse-direction and off-peak service and adding full weekend service.

Need double platforms on the Manassas Line and higher density development next to stations.
