@ipsaUK Its absolutely unbelievable. £5000 pay rise. I bet Richard must be very popular. @Keir_Starmer @UKLabour Its these stories that make you realise how pathetic and useless the government really is. On top of their pay rise, people still suffer.. Just a fiddle

For 2026-27, the salary of an MP will be £98,599. We made this decision after widespread public engagement, and benchmarking against other responsible roles in the UK and around the world. You can find out more about our decision-making below: assets.ctfassets.net/s90k6prbkeee/4…

@gavglicksman @JohnSlinger I think he’s trying to dispel a common misconception about MPs funding. As a journalist I would have thought you’d be in favour of dispelling incorrect information, especially where there’s a public interest.

@JohnSlinger Sorry, are we meant to be grateful that you pay for your own food?! MPs get paid a small fortune compared to most Brits — and that’s before expenses and perks are thrown in. You’ve made yourself look a complete clown here.

Myth: MPs get their home bills paid. Reality: I pay my own mortgage and bills in Rugby. When Parliament requires me in London, rent for the flat is covered, same as any worker required away from home. I pay for my own food.

@calamity911 @ollyp3 @Iromg The choice she has is: a) not to pay or to reduce the pay of her team in order to hire more, b) reduce the support she provides to her constituents, c) find ways of bringing in extra money.

@ollyp3 @Iromg Exactly. At best she is susceptible to bribery with posts like this, at worst it could be perceived as her begging for it.

Stella says my criticism is wrong. Then admits she claims in excess of £250k from the taxpayer in expenses. So I’m right. Now argues it’s not fair to criticise her because she’s doing good things on other people’s money. Nice work if you can get it eh?

@spygirl_m Most MPs spend similar amounts. Most MP staff earn below average salaries. MP staff turnover is much higher than average. Staffing isn’t just salaries. It’s employer NI, employer pension contributions, training, health and welfare costs.

WTF??? She earns 2x the national average, taking home £95,000 per year In the 24-25 financial year she claimed £265,000 in staffing cost from the taxpayer, so that must be a well paid team, now she’s asking for more? Parliament is full of entitled scroungers and she’s # 1.

There is a hugely optimistic future for our country, but only if we control spending - especially benefits - bear down on debt and get taxes down. We’re getting poorer because Rachel Reeves is rewarding welfare not work. I spoke to @cathynewman on @timesradio 👇🏻

BREAKING: Economy now shrinking. Labour promised growth but they’re destroying it. Higher taxes, ever more spending, borrowing and regulation was never going to work.

As part of our annual publication of MPs' business costs, we've published a report explaining which Parliamentary duties are funded, and why. assets.ctfassets.net/nc7h1cs4q6ic/2…

New polling paints an interesting picture of the public's tax-raising priorities, and a depressing picture of the public's understanding of tax and spending. I have no easy answers, but I do have some rather alarming charts.

@PARLYapp Or you could just let people express themselves normally? There is so much stupid Hogwartsian shit in Parliament that serves no useful purpose. Why not have a serious modern legislature and not an archaic braying circus?

@milliebananas @WorkersPartyGB No we don’t. The post is misleading. This property is funded by a trust, and no MP expenses can be used to claim for costs on this property.

A far cry from the types of houses that the pensioners who depend on the winter fuel allowance that she has cruelly taken away live in. Though she most likely needs the space to store all her freebies, gifts and donations. She lives in splendour whilst our poorest and most vulnerable suffer, freeze and die because of her entirely political decision that need not have been made. @WorkersPartyGB This isn’t Rachel Reeves house, it’s Dorneywood. Owned by the National Trust and used by the Chancellor. Ministers can’t claim Govt costs on their expenses. Rachel Reeves isn’t allowed to claim expenses on this. The costs are met by a trust. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dorneywoo…

🧵27% of MPs who lost their seats at the 2010 general election and were looking for paid employment were still without a job 12 months after the election. So @GullisJonathan's experience is not unusual. 1/

Is £90,000 a year a middle-class income? youtu.be/vno7mlIBI0A?si… When being interviewed on the radio, I was told by the broadcaster that £90,000 was only ‘middle-class income’ and not enough for MPs. She was, very clearly, out of touch with reality.

@Dunkelflouter @JohnnyEnglishX Stupid false equivalence. It’s not “false information”. MPs often have more than one address. They decided which one is their main address. They are often known to flip from one to the other address for tax and expenses purposes.
