@mich___l @MoniKay9295 @TwinkTheory I think most kid-having people we know of have 1 kid (i recall 1 set of non W twins, 1 set of brothers) and then the outliers, the Weasleys, with everyone else. Their grandparents seemed to have more kids, though, at least from family trees

How did Harry potters parents have all that cash for his trust fund? They died at 21 and the only jobs in the wizarding world are civil servant, barmaid, teacher or shop owner. Or is it just like magic? And if so how are the Weasleys poor like how far does magic go? Are they just bad at magic?

@Danneskjold184 @mich___l @TwinkTheory No, unfortunately Rowling made sure to have D say that every child that exhibits magic gets a letter The only ones who don't get one are squibs, born to witches but without abilities (rant witheld), but that's rare -so, at least in the UK, they *are* all going to the one school.

@mich___l @TwinkTheory I think, and I'm not going to bother to verify this, that if you run the numbers, you'd realize that MOST witches and wizards are **NOT** going to the schools. Some are home schooled, but a LOT just aren't good enough to go, but still have magic.

@IronForge1 @stedanddunc @gregforever17 It's not the most common use, you'd be marking the same periods if you were actively trying for a baby too. But, yes, some people also mark their safe days specifically so they know when they can have sex without risking a pregnancy. Why wouldn't they.

when people track their period I'm like... why? you don't need to know when it's coming because it just comes and you know when you pull your pants down. there's really not that much premeditating you can do.

@IronForge1 @gregforever17 No, it's also used by people with irregular periods due to stuff like pos, people who get sudden and heavy flows the first day, weird gremlins who track everything cuz they enjoy the paperwork, and also PEOPLE TRYING TO HAVE A BABY

@gregforever17 Those tracking periods are the ones who engage in s*x frequently. They dont want to mess around and have results they didnt want.

@fjc0000 @AlexTaller2 @realBigStanH Sure, maybe you'd think im so nuts I am viciously slandering Bond, or whatever, but you wouldn't think im so nuts I think Bond is *real* But objecting to my anti Bond rant saying i *can't* criticize Bond UNLESS i think he's real? Bravo, sir, you deserve my nuts card more than me

@fjc0000 @AlexTaller2 @realBigStanH I mean, i can also criticize them directly, in the same way I can criticize James Bond the 'person', if someone tried to convince me he is the perfect human speciment and I should live by his example. It'd snarkily be all "oh you mean the alcoholic RAPIST" about a *made up dude*.

@realBigStanH Great question. Here’s another great question. Give me a verifiable example of an atheist criticizing God and a proof that the critic is not a schizophrenic. Because only a schizophrenic can criticize something that, according to him, does not exist.

@JoeRingo5 @realBigStanH How are you guys still claiming this, like we're all gonna un-notice that a big chunk of pop atheists had been criticising islam, a few veering into explicit islamophobia along the way, for decades at this point. There was a scandal about it and everything

@realBigStanH On the other hand, citicising the evil deeds of a supposedly all powerful and perfectly good character is pointing at a contradiction in your story. If Satan had simmilar contradictions (say he hid some Egyptian boys so God wouldn't kill them) you'd be hearing about that too

@realBigStanH Cuz criticizing the deeds of an evil character who is written to be evil and acts accordingly is pointless. What am I gonna say? Like, yup, that's a villain alright. Thems indeed be some bad deeds. Sure would suck if that guy were real. Pointless

There are literally special trash bins in stalls to throw away period products

@_celia_bedelia_ No, there aren't. In the stalls that have a sink and paper towels, they typically only have the one trash can for the paper towels. The specific ones were only a thing because there wasn't a trash can.

@rosepe0ny @Lordpandawaffle @DangerLili97 @_celia_bedelia_ You keep bringing up cleanliness. That's not relevant here. Something being a biohazard is not an issue of cleanliness. Blood is a hazard not because it is dirty, but because it can transmit diseases that otherwise would not be transmitted.

@Nawtypikachu @BootlegMermaid @RobertSecundus @DrWallkick I agree that it's not an inability to resolve plots either -i think she did resolve those she felt were important, in a way *she* finds provided closure. I disagree with her choices (like you said, Harry?! An Auror??? What.) -but they're doing exactly what she chose them to do.

@Mossovanny @BootlegMermaid @RobertSecundus @DrWallkick I like to think of it as jk's oversight as a writer than her inability to successfully resolve these sub plots. I did feel the ending at king's cross didn't suit Harry's character. He wanted a normal life but wouldn't leave the systemic problems as they were to settle as an auror

Part of this arises from Rowling’s own limitations as a worldbuilder. Fantasy humanities would require the education system to disclose things to the characters/reader that aren’t directly relevant to the immediate plot. She struggles there.

Since Harry Potter is in the news, this is a good excuse to repost one of my favorite Mark McGurl essays. Hogwarts is a technical school. No pondering the meaning of life here!

@_AashishReddy @khanofkhans77 @axiochrono Yeah, but it'd still be divination (Hermione confirms it is). It's just using numbers as the scrying matetial instead of, idk, jiaobei. The latter practice won't teach you woodcarving, just as the former won't teach you calculus, y know?

@axiochrono I think the actual subject where the Wizard math hides is transfiguration, not potions. Even in year 1 or 2, McGonacal is stressing durimg a class how important it is to calculate your pre and post trans volume/mass properly. Whereas potions is practically cooking. V little math

A lot of stuff could be reframed that way -and then the book can both eat its cake AND have it.
The Cat Farm@Mossovanny

@RadioMcLean @axiochrono You could reframe Dad Weasley initially being naive about muggles as him trying to make Harry feel comfortable by joking -only to find out he's a pro, actually, when, idk, Sirius's motorbike needs a muggle repair, and he does it effortlessly. "Blimey, its my job Harry", he'd say
