Corruption further exacerbates the problem. In some cases, there are allegations that hospital staff deliberately delay or complicate the treatment process for insured patients in hopes of encouraging out-of-pocket payments. This undermines trust in the healthcare system and places vulnerable patients at even greater risk, especially those who rely entirely on insurance coverage for their medical needs. Another troubling practice is the tendency for hospitals to redirect patients to affiliated private pharmacies. Patients are often told that prescribed medications are unavailable within the hospital, only to be directed to specific external pharmacies—sometimes owned or connected to the same healthcare providers. This raises concerns about transparency, conflict of interest, and potential exploitation, as patients may end up paying higher prices unnecessarily. These issues collectively point to a systemic problem that requires urgent attention. Healthcare should be guided by principles of equity, compassion, and professionalism—not financial bias. Addressing delays in insurance settlements, strengthening regulatory oversight, and enforcing ethical standards in medical practice are essential steps toward restoring fairness and trust in healthcare systems. Patients, regardless of how their treatment is financed, deserve equal respect, timely care, and honest service.
