@Dr_Chibuike_M Well, based on the fact we’re looking at his skeleton without a body I’d have to say it was unlikely.

@MerriamWebster @megan7oneill A worthy addition to this would be:
It’s ‘en route’ not ‘on route.’

@sailor_rog19339 @DanielJHannan You maintain overseas bases to enable you to project your power globally far faster than if you had to deploy troops every single time.
English

And the rest of the story...
NATO was never intended to be the reason for America to maintain bases in Europe forever, to protect them.
It was intended to be a less than 10-year period of America military protecting Europe from the USSR, WHILE Europe developed their own defensive capabilities. Then America would withdraw and Europe be responsible for their own security.
Instead, it somehow morphed into being Americas “forever” job to protect Europe from the USSR.
Even that "extended" mission ended in 1991, with the fall of the USSR.
What possible justification is there for America spending over $30 billion (€ 26 billion) annually for maintaining bases and 100,000+ troops in Europe (does not include pay and operating costs – facility maintenance only)?

NATO members are obliged to support one another if attacked, not to join wars of choice. That stipulation was made at the demand of the US, which also insisted that the commitment be territorially limited.
“The treaty does not cover the entire world,” said Dean Acheson. “It applies only to the North Atlantic area.”
He made clear that this had been the key American condition. “We deliberately avoided any implication that we were undertaking a global military commitment.”
The Senate, worried about being dragged into European colonial wars, had threatened to refuse ratification unless the limitations were explicit.
As John Foster Dulles put it: “If it were made global in scope, it would not be acceptable to the United States.”
Despite all this, the only time that NATO has gone to war was indeed out of area, at the request of the US after 9/11.

@RoyalistW @shopkins776 What about if you’re sick, immobile and in incredible, uncontrollable pain that you know will only get worse for the rest of your life? What do you do then?
English

Suicide is an act I can not understand
If you have given up on life then there is no reason to fear death much less anything else.
Quite your job, wander the world, live in the woods, etc, etc.
You might as well risk it all if you’re ready to throw it all away anyhow.

@SavchenkoReview That big fat beautiful ocean is between the US and Europe, not US and Russia. You can probably drive across the Bering Strait half of the time! 🙄😂
