This highlight is a microcosm of why, for the Olympics, it will be complicated to pick between pro NFL players and pro flag football players

Coinbase and Robinhood are building AI assistants for investors, focused on sophisticated investors who are doing extensive research and constructing complex trades. They seem curiously uninterested in building a more fully autonomous agentic investing service for retail users.

Seattle’s socialist Mayor Katie Wilson has officially declared war on grocery chains. She claims she will unilaterally BAN grocery stores from closing down in her city, arguing that food access is a human right that overrides business decisions. She said : "We cannot allow big grocery chains to close stores at will!" The Plan: If a private business tries to leave due to theft, taxes, or safety concerns... the government will step in. Her allies in the state legislature have even introduced a bill (HB-2313) allowing the city to use Eminent Domain to SEIZE grocery store properties and turn them into government-run shops. Mayor Katie Wilson calls it "protecting the community." Critics call it "holding businesses hostage." Thoughts?

Did you know 😏 He rubbed lemon juice on his face. Robbed two banks. Smiled at the cameras. Got caught in an hour. And changed psychology forever. In 1995, McArthur Wheeler walked into two banks in Pittsburgh and robbed them with no mask, no disguise, and lemon juice on his face. He believed that because lemon juice works as invisible ink on paper, it would make his face invisible to cameras. He smiled directly into the security cameras. Police aired the footage on the evening news and arrested him within an hour. When shown the tape, Wheeler stared at the screen and said, "But I wore the juice." He had tested the theory with a Polaroid selfie and didn't appear in the photo — because lemon juice got in his eyes and he aimed the camera at the ceiling. His case inspired Cornell psychologists David Dunning and Justin Kruger to publish their 1999 paper defining the Dunning-Kruger Effect — the cognitive bias where people with low ability drastically overestimate their own competence.

Long piece on the demise of the CFPB. And, sadly, it’s exactly what you’d expect from The New Yorker. They hit all the high notes on the very obvious failures of this admin. And it’s spot on, in that respect. But, as always, they miss all the equally obvious failings of the last admin. The half baked rule proposals (credit card late fee caps, UDAAP exam manual, open banking rules, 1071 small biz lending rules), the often thoughtless approach to litigation, and the resulting court setbacks (Snap Finance, Moneygram, TU, Heights Finance). And, worse, the nonstop parade of hyperbolic press releases that rendered the CFPB’s previously powerful bully pulpit as an anemic afterthought that no longer generated the press, or the fear, from companies. One of these days, I’d love to see someone cover the CFPB (or anything, really) with even a modicum of balance. This admin is thoughtlessly dismantling the CFPB but this didn’t happen in a vacuum. There were scores and scores of mistakes from the Biden admin that brought us here. No one benefits from pretending they didn’t happen. Link to the article next
