@WassonWatch Battelle had a contract to buy those from all over the world, bring them to Ohio, and armor the hell out of them. I wanted one bad.

@PJMatt Morocco in the 80s for the first TALs was a trip. I look at it now and feel like I got to experience a moment in time decades before it actually was. The suk, driving up to the Berbers, the civil war. And we just rolled like it was nothing.

That is the motto of USCG swimmers. The word 'so' does not appear in the pararescue creed and the motto is THESE THINGS WE DO, THAT OTHERS MAY LIVE

On August 11-12, 2018, in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan, Tech Sgt. Gavin Fisher, a US Air Force Pararescueman assigned to the 83rd Expeditionary Rescue Squadron, was serving as the rear gunner in the lead vehicle of a Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force convoy during a ten-day mission to defend the city against over 500 Taliban fighters. The convoy suddenly came under heavy ambush with rocket-propelled grenades and machine-gun fire. Fisher was struck by grenade shrapnel but immediately returned fire, directed his vehicle out of the kill zone, and dismounted to engage two Taliban fighters at close range (within 50 meters) while beginning life-saving treatment on wounded soldiers. Despite his injuries, Fisher refused to fall back. He stopped massive bleeding and administered blood transfusions to critically injured troops under direct fire, then continued treating more casualties during a second ambush—driving 75 meters through heavy machine-gun fire to reach additional wounded, treating five more soldiers, and helping call in evacuation. Over the intense two-day fight, his extraordinary actions as both a combatant and medic saved the lives of 10 critically injured American and Afghan soldiers, enabled the medical evacuation of 20 more casualties, and contributed to the elimination of 118 Taliban fighters. For his gallantry, Tech Sgt. Gavin Fisher was awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart.

@WassonWatch Look at peak 80's and the navy got Top Gun and the AF had Iron Eagle. C'mon, naval aviation is literally the second best air force in the world how did they let that happen.

Memo from a Cold War and Global War on Terror vet. And a personal note. With yesterday’s incredible rescue of an Air Force warrior, I’m left with two emotions: One, incredible pride in my military and gratitude for having been born and raised in the United States of America. Being an “American” means something and continues to set us apart from the rest. Two, awe for what our services are capable of. All of them! The strides we’ve made over the decades have brought us here. I can attest. I was involved in special operations early in my Air Force career and early in the development of the capabilities you see today. Various iterations of special operations in our military have existed since WWII with no command devoted solely to these unique missions and assets. The seminal event that changed that oversight occurred in 1980, “Desert One” or Operation Eagle Claw. Not ironically, in Iran. An effort to rescue 53 Americans held captive at the US Embassy (for 444 days) went horribly wrong in the Iranian desert in the middle of the night. Eight US servicemen died and no hostages were rescued. It was a stain of the Carter administration and a stain for America. We didn’t get our people. It was then that the US military began the process of uniting the different services and their unique capabilities, ultimately becoming the US Special Operations Command (SOCOM). And SOCOM succeeded dramatically this week! And, I’m particularly proud of my dad, Major General Bob Patterson (USAF). He flew AC-130 Spectre’s in Vietnam and was involved in the planning of Desert One. He realized the shortfalls and would become the commander of Air Force Special Operations Command. The home of Air Force’s special aviators, PJs, Combat Controllers, and the Air Commandos. He’d be absolutely thrilled today.🇺🇸

I'm sharing photos that might not "make the cut" for the photo section of "Blasting Through." This is of B Squadron teammates preparing for military freefall training. In the civilian world, it’s called skydiving. We went to Las Vegas for air awareness training in a wind tunnel, "Indoor Skydiving." This is before the military got their wind tunnels. L to R, Top Row, Frank McKenna, Larry Steele, Gary Gardiner, Jon Saterstad. L to R, Bottom Row, Mike Vining, Bob Little, May 1983. Share your wind tunnel experiences.

@bluengoldreport I have only 'discovered' Navy sports this year because my kid is a plebe. but i am old enough, objective enough and good enough at looking up old stuff to have pieced together one inescapable conclusion: Blake Horvath was the baddest MFer this school ever put on the field.

@DI313_ All credibility goes straight out the window when you use terms like “Pararescue Jumpers”. Morons. Pararescuemen or Pararescue Operator is the correct term for PJs, a Korean War era nickname from flight orders that became permanent. Learn and do better.😎🇺🇸👣👣👣

🇺🇸 🔥 DEEP INSIDE IRAN… 72 HOURS… AND A MISSION THAT SHOULDN’T HAVE WORKED BUT DID. This wasn’t just a rescue. This was a full scale combat survival and extraction operation… happening in real time. A F-15E Strike Eagle was shot down inside Iran. Two crew ejected. One pilot was recovered early. The second survived on his own for nearly 72 hours. Injured. Alone. For those 72 hours, everything was on the line. RESCUE OPERATION ACTIVATED A full scale rescue operation involving • United States Special Operations Forces • Pararescue Jumpers • Intelligence support from Central Intelligence Agency ASSETS USED Air and ground assets included • MQ-9 Reaper drones • UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters • C-130 Hercules transport aircraft Airstrikes were used to hold back approaching forces. Electronic and intelligence measures disrupted tracking. EXTRACTION PHASE During extraction, reports indicate direct engagement. Some aircraft were damaged, and at least one was destroyed to prevent capture. Despite the risks, both crew members were recovered. MISSION OUTCOME This operation shows the scale and coordination behind modern combat search and rescue. No one left behind. Do you think such high risk missions are strategically justified?

For those of you who’ve never heard it, this is the “Airman’s Creed.” Soak in the words. I am an American Airman. I am a warrior. I have answered my nation's call. I am an American Airman. My mission is to fly, fight, and win. I am faithful to a proud heritage, A tradition of honor, And a legacy of valor. I am an American Airman, Guardian of freedom and justice, My nation's sword and shield, Its sentry and avenger. I defend my country with my life. I am an American Airman: Wingman, leader, warrior. I will never leave an Airman behind, I will never falter, And I will not fail.
