Trump's choices when it comes to the U.S.A.-Mexico-Canada (USMCA) trade agreement. a) Review, adjust, & extend for another 16 years b) Decline to review now, triggering annual reviews going forward. Basically a "sunset" period until it expires in 2036 c) Withdraw by filing a 6-month notice. He favours terminating the agreement, which would be absolutely devasting for Ontario, BC and Quebec.

Carney flew to the G7 in France. Says he talked to Trump 7 or 8 times. But when asked if he specifically discussed CUSMA renewal? He dodged. So the reporter asked again. Still no clear yes. Canada’s biggest trade deal with the U.S. got treated like an afterthought.

There isn’t going to be a deal. The Canadian elite instead chose to continually poke the Americans in the eye. CUSMA is going to be cancelled July 1. Canada is in a deep crisis. And it’s fully self inflicted.

The hot mic moment got me thinking. Carney was in China in January. It’s now June. If he’s explaining basic facts about Canada’s EV deal with China to Trump on a hot mic, it doesn’t exactly sound like they’ve had any substantive discussions. And before anyone says trade negotiations are handled by others, Carney is the one who said he could get a deal done. So where are we at?
