I completely understand where you’re coming from, but for a lot of gamers physical discs are the only way they could afford to play games because they could get them secondhand. You can also give games to your younger siblings Which is a great way to introduce them to the games you were playing. Most importantly though, as we saw from PlayStation this past week, if the media we buy is only digital, it can be taken away from us at a moment’s notice with no recourse. Imagine that, one day your entire library of games could be deleted overnight because technically you don’t own it.

@IGN The last disc based game I bought was GTA V for PS3 from a pawn shop back when I was homeless. I now own over 700 games and they’re all digital.

@AndrewM51901 @MightyGazelle1 I’d argue 66% is a pretty good number of games not requiring a download; however, as much as it pains me to say, I’m fine with discs requiring a download if it means you can still buy used copies or trade with friends, all the other benefits of physical. Digital only sucks

@MightyGazelle1 Apparently people in the industry say that it's possible that we can but just like you I'm not going to hold my breath. Unfortunately lots of games were not being included on the disc anyways, so in a way it's been slowly ending for a long time.

This Playstation backlash is FIERCE. Like, some of the strongest I've ever seen regarding gaming. They will not reverse decision, but i do expect a statement addressing some things to "try" and save some face.

@_NIXNE No. The only way I will is if they reverse this decision and continue to make physical games through the PS6’s lifespan. If Xbox does confirm physical for project helix, I’m switching to them

You may remember that Sony announced the closure of the PS3 and Vita stores back in March 2021, but loud backlash caused them to delay that decision for five additional years. Hopefully the noise about discs has been just as loud and Sony calls this off for the time being. 🤞
