I already used nomic-embed as the memory_search / memory_get local model, and I also had modified the compaction prompt and post-compaction instructions to include verbatim writes of the last 5 exchanges as well as a mandatory re-reading of the last 400 lines of the JSONL transcript before continuing.

OpenClaw 4.10 with the new active-memory plugin enabled is SO MUCH SMARTER. It's really a ridiculous step-change. @steipete, takhoffman/@cherry_mx_reds did a fantastic job. So happy with this.

Hermes is good. There, I said it. It really pulled off something amazing for me, with the same model - GPT 5.4 - that I use in OpenClaw. They are different tools with different strengths, but they are both good. Hermes just relentlessly pursues a project build. It isnโt fast โ but itโs *good*. It isnโt truly multi-agent, but not everything has to be.
Using both is wise.
