@jpatrick92 @Divided_W0rld @BamaSaltyMarine We had pallets of the juice box style UHT milk when I was stationed in Germany in the early 90’s. Now that shit is becoming more and more common in the USA due to the long shelf life.

If MREs are good enough for our troops, why not for welfare? What if EBT was replaced with monthly MRE deliveries, 8 cases per person. No misuse. No luxury. Just food. Needs met. Problem solved!

I loved Velveeta, my mom would cross the border to do groceries when the Canadian dollar was high. I think we have it in our stores now, though.

@jpatrick92 @BeefMcQueen @BamaSaltyMarine The cheese was not shelf stable but most of the rest of the things were. The cheese lasted a while but eventually molded. It was kinda like Velveeta and American cheese. Good as a kid, too processed for most adults.

@CarlsCurls @Divided_W0rld @BamaSaltyMarine That sounds like it'd be much better than powdered, especially if you started with a high fat % milk. I always found 1% milk to be too little, almost watered down, and 4% to be too much. But if you started with 4% and added water to dilute to 2% it would probably work out well.

@Divided_W0rld @BamaSaltyMarine I was in my teens the first time we had to use a food bank and got powdered milk instead of the real stuff, so I feel like the lack of nutrition wasn't as big of a deal to me. My brother was still growing and I recall him drinking it and using it in cereal☹️

@Divided_W0rld @BamaSaltyMarine Thankfully I was never destitute or desperate enough to have to consider drinking the powdered milk. The sight of it alone was enough to make my stomach churn. You could stir it for an hour and it'd still have huge disgusting chunks in it. Blegh🤮
