I was born at the perfect time to pursue a career in full-stack software development. I entered the workforce at the emergence of Windows for Workgroups and Linux, and I'll be retiring right about the time the AI's make me redundant. Also, the year Social Security goes broke.

@SandyofCthulhu I don't like re-playing old games because of the rough interfaces, but the aching complexity of modern games has forced us into using contextual, overloaded controls, which is it's own frustration, and which makes switching between games difficult.

Other advantages of older games are: 1) rules were often less complex. Compare Doom to modern shooters 2) quirkier games - suits were less likely to interfere and dumb it down. Look at Zelda Link to the Past. 3) no “always online” bullsh^t 4) no micro transactions

One of the most common counterarguments I hear against the greatness of retro games is: "You're just looking at it through rose-tinted glasses and putting too much weight on nostalgia" - or something along those lines. I disagree. The reason we still remember games that are 40+ years old isn't simply because we were young back then. There were genuinely a lot of great games in the 80s. They didn’t rely on flashy graphics, bombastic soundtracks, or massive marketing budgets. Instead, they were built on timeless concepts, born mostly from the creativity and genius of the early developers. These games were severely limited by the hardware and software of their time, which forced their creators to become pioneers - often achieving things that were considered impossible. On top of that, the core game idea itself had to be truly captivating to overcome the constraints of limited disk space and processing power. What we remember - and why we remember it - cannot be dismissed with a simple "oh, we were young." It's rooted in the creative genius and timeless design of those games. If you’re still not convinced, let me ask you a simple question: Twenty years from now, do you think more people will remember a random Roblox game from 2026 than classics like SimCity, Pitfall, Pirates, or Tetris? If it were purely nostalgia, then today’s teenagers will someday be able to name 100 great games from the “Roblox era.” I'll take any bet that won't happen. The reason we still remember Pac-Man, Pirates, Civilization, Elite, Maniac Mansion, The Sentinel, Defender, Space Invaders, King's Quest, or Ultima isn't just explained by nostalgia. They were incredible games with great, timeless concepts, designed by brilliant minds who pushed far beyond the technological limits of their era. If you can name even just 10 legendary mobile/Roblox games 20 years from now I'd be more than impressed.

@JonRush1977 @RetroActive84 @bethesda @Fallout ZOS is on a tear delivering content and QOL upgrades that people have wanted for years, including cross play! It feels like 76 is getting left further and further behind its peers. Not to mention it is absolutely PLAGUED with bugs.

@RetroActive84 @bethesda @Fallout We have thinking around plans for possibly adding faction type content- the specifics of which you’ll need to stay tuned in for. A massive live service game like this can be a slow moving ship… so larger changes can take some time to properly integrate. Ty for your thoughts!

I have come to terms with the fact that @bethesda will never bring @fallout 76 Nuclear Winter back. I have come to terms that they care more about events than the game being an actual MMORPG. I have come to terms with the fact that most of my friends wont play 76 with me cause they find it born. I have come to terms with the fact that 76 for me will only be longing in doing dailies and weeklies and then logging off cause I have no friends to play with. But @JonRush1977 for the love of god please give us more than events. Daily Ops and Expeditions are just fancy names for events. Give us more actual RPG stuff. For instance.... if you want more money you could give us the option of paying for a few things like: Custom Factions, similar to making our own guilds, we can pay a small nominal fee to create a custom faction, give it a backstory to fit the fallout theme, we could have faction vendors too. Then with custom factions you can have say Faction camp builds that we can pay for like adding on camp builds. New Camp items focused for Custom Factions in the atom shop. Then you can make faction dailies and weeklies and season items. let us choose from art pieces to make faction logos, that can be put on armor and clothes and weapons and pipboys This would enhance events cause we could go in as a faction and show of our logos on our armors clothes and weapons. outside of factions you could add a Marriage system and the fallout 4 lovers perk For camps with let friends connect camps side by side kind of like the snap feature in build mode we can "snap" camps together, this could be for the married characters or with the factions, if we pay for the faction camp add on, the faction camp would allow us to snap our own camps to that. mods. create a creation store, for the public worlds we can get cosmetic mods some free some paid. in the fallout 1st custom worlds we can get free and paid mods that alter the game its self. all this would give us more tools to do RPing more... GTA and other games have RP servers the things listed above we could use public worlds and custom worlds to do RPs more. With custom worlds let us Pay to have more than 8 people. Again John Rush this would give some of us who don't like events but want to make friends and who stream fallout something other than events to do in the game. with the things I mentioned we could totally stream fall out RPs better. I could invite viewers to join me in a public, private adventure or custom world for RPing. Imagine if in custom worlds you gave us the ability to make our own MINI nuclear winter. we could set a nuclear winter setting, make it randomly choose an area and our friends can come in and we all go 1 on 1 or 2 on 2 or 4 on 4 in a custom world configured to be a mini nuclear winter, and many of us would loved NW would be SOMEWHAT sated. so many ideas that can bring money to bethesda, attention to 76 and give many of us something other than events to do.

@Huff4Congress Race relations were never better than at the end of the 80's. Then hip-hop culture took over black communities, and it's been all downhill ever since. I have a theory as to why this happened so suddenly and pervasively...

It’s difficult to explain to anyone under 30 that we elder millennials and Gen Xers really did live in a melting pot. “Diversity” wasn’t a virtue. It just happened. Film, TV, music, school, work. It was unremarkable. It was just America. We shared life because we shared culture.

@ShitpostRock2 Fallout. 4's Anniversary Ed is a broken mess, still, 6 months later, and 76 keeps getting less content and more bugs with every update. It's getting very, very tiring. I keep looking for alternatives. I think Destiny 2 would be a good replacement, but that franchise is dying too.

@RazorwireRPG Amen, brother! Bethesda sits on 3 of the most valuable IP's in gaming, and they're fumbling ALL of them. Every one is a buggy mess. Fallout 4 Anniversary, Starfield on PS, Fallout 76. "Forget we said TES 6." All dying because of bugs. The Creation engine is killing them.

I really hope going forward someone just finally makes a brilliant open world Post Apoc RPG and puts Fallout of it's misery. Bethesda just doesn't fucking care, man. Whatever spark they had, whatever they intended - it's all whales and season passes and love heart emotes now. I think AtomFall was brilliant and Metro Exodus was great. I pray someone like those companies just gives us a nuanced, deep, dark Wasteland setting. There are literally millions of people who want a proper Fallout game again.

They can't find a junior programmer anywhere in the country? Let alone from their own school's CS department? Let alone in a state with 2 of the best technical universities in the country, which also both have CS departments!?

@RayCanuck2026 @beinlibertarian What's the alternative? Just like corporations that all collude in a market, we have a uniparty. The scales have finally fallen from enough eyes to make a difference, but the system that tries to primary the few ACTUAL politicians will prevent any new ones from entering.

@beinlibertarian He's getting the terrifying picture. One of the most politically-astute, right-leaning people I know has said he's never voting again, and I think this is a widespread sentiment. Vance has no chance of being elected in Trump's wake, because the right wing has given up.

The CEO of Krafton (creator of PUBG) asked ChatGPT to create a "corporate takeover strategy" to prevent a company they acquired from hitting a revenue target within a certain time window (which would trigger an additional payout). ChatGPT (against his lawyer's advice) suggested locking down the acquired companies Steam account to prevent them from publishing Subnautica 2 in the time window, which the CEO of Krafton followed. ChatGPT's advice did not hold up at trial and the judge was not happy. The opinion is a wild read and includes several direct quotes from the Krafton CEO's ChatGPT conversation. I feel like it's gonna take a few more high profile examples like this until executives start realizing that conversations with ChatGPT are not privileged and you probably shouldn't describe your questionably legal schemes to them in detail!

Had a fun day today. 2 weeks ago an Indian (US Citizen) IT employee called ICE on his own department because he heard that many of them were here on fake H1-B Visas. 25 employees were arrested out of 100ish. He was correct. After talking to his leadership he also informed them that many here legally, but we're hired under false pretenses, because they had bought diplomas in India and never really got a degree. At this point management was worried they had been defrauded so they called me up to help them figure it out. We ran all of the remaining employees hiring paperwork through some AI analytics today. Massive amounts of documents. This included reading copies of diplomas, and and a ton of other personal documents. Training the AI analytics tool to look for irregularities in past work experience and education history. As an example: 1.) Check to see if the school exists 2.) Check to see if the person who signed the diploma actually worked at the university 3.) check to see if the degree listed is actually taught at that university 4.) ETC ETC ETC. We found that of the remaining 75 H1-b employees 50 of them had provided fake diplomas to either our company directly, or the contracting company they were hired through. So out of this one department of 250 people, 100 ish were from India here on visas, and 75 of them had defrauded the company during the hiring process. Either providing fake visa paperwork or falsification of education. Basically 75% lied. Not sure what they are going to do about it yet, as across the IT organization they have 1500 ish H1-B visa employees and they cannot fire 75% of them right now even if they wanted to, but I do know they are running all current visa employees records through the tool, any new applicants as well, and will be firing anyone who lied as soon as they get replacement in line for them. From the leadership I was working with: "We have to remove them, we cannot keep employees who defraud the company even if they are good and cheap"

@Anc_Aesthetics I read once that we get the rich B students. The A students stay in India for the best jobs there. The B’s get pushed out, and come here, if they can afford the initial process. I don’t know how true that is, but it makes a certain kind of sense.

The most ridiculous part about the "highly skilled" lie is if companies were actually looking for the best and brightest from around the world, they would have a massive problem with 76 IQ indians flooding every single type of Visa. They are quite literally crowding out the best and brightest from actually getting a visa, making our country dumber in the process. Anyone who doesn't want to ban indian immigration should not be taken seriously as they are either A) Retarded B) Completely bought and paid for.
Hany Girgis@SanDiegoKnight

India is flooding the EB-5 investor visa program so hard that the State Department is warning it may have to **retrogress** (move the cutoff date backwards) or make the entire “unreserved” category **unavailable** for the rest of FY 2026. Translation: - EB-5 = pay $800K+ to get a green card for you + family. - India’s demand is now so massive they’re about to hit the annual cap **early**. - New applicants could be forced to wait years longer… or get shut out completely this year. This is the same country already dominating H-1B and OPT backlogs. The entire employment-based green card system is collapsing under the weight of one country’s demand. Time to reform the caps and put Americans first.
