A "dove release" at a wedding or funeral is a death sentence for the birds. The white "doves" sold for releases aren't doves. They're domestic pigeons bred to be small and white, and they have no survival skills outside a coop. DIY releasers often buy white Ringneck Doves or King Pigeons, which have zero ability to navigate home. Nearly all of them die. Even professional releases with trained homing pigeons kill birds. Hawks take them in the air. Cars hit them when they land exhausted. They collide with windows. They get lost and starve. Rehabbers pull them in with broken wings, broken legs, raging trichomoniasis, and bodies so emaciated the birds can barely stand. One rehabber described treating a white pigeon from a release whose throat infection had hardened so completely it distorted the shape of his skull. There is no version of this tradition where the birds "fly away and live happily ever after." That's the marketing story. The reality is that you paid to traumatize and usually kill a domestic animal for a 15-second photo moment. If someone you know is planning a dove release for a wedding, funeral, or celebration, tell them. Bubbles, sparklers, dried flower petals, or ribbon throws all photograph beautifully and don't kill anything. The birds are not props, they are live animals that need proper care.

So, 8 years ago, I told a story that changed my life. Shortly after, my pal John Michell asked if he could turn it into a film. Well, I'm DELIGHTED TO ANNOUNCE that 'Me, Myself & Mary' is not only finished, but has been selected for @Tribeca's animated shorts roster this year.

🚨 BREAKING: Irish authorities are hitting peaceful protesters with multiple €40 fines for the "crime" of being on a public road during a lawful assembly. One person received several fixed penalty notices all for "obstruction" while exercising constitutional rights to peaceful protest. The documents literally reference being present at a peaceful gathering. They print the right to assemble in black and white… then slap you with a stack of €40 tickets for daring to use it this isn't policing. This is financial harassment designed to make rights too expensive for ordinary people. The message from the state is loud and clear "Protest if you want but we'll bleed you with fines until you shut up and stay home. When governments turn constitutional freedoms into a costly inconvenience, those freedoms cease to exist in practice. They become privileges reserved for those who never question power. How many more citizens will be nickeled-and-dimed into silence before the public pushes back? This is soft authoritarianism death by a thousand small fines. Know your rights use your voice before it costs too much. Or watch them vanish one €40 ticket at a time. Share this if you're tired of two-tier "justice" that punishes peaceful dissent while real chaos goes unchecked. #Ireland #FuelProtest

A perfect example of how to lead would include the Minister For Disability NOT blocking a wheelchair accessible space , while double parked on double yellow lines for over an hour outside the Department of Children, Disability and Equality. This is really inexcusable , but a perfect example of how what is said is not matched by actions. @AccessForAll7 #disabilityparking

When we met the new Minister for disability she listened to the @IrishWheelchair the @DisabilityFed and ourselves as we outlined why we desperately needed a €400 emergency payment. She listened, smiled and said she would bring it to @MichealMartinTD and @SimonHarrisTD but she doubted they could move on it. We received a letter from the Taioseach outlining why they would not be meeting our demands and one of the narratives was if we give it to you we will open the flood gates. Well then Dam is burst Taioseach are you still going to stand by and continue to allow our disability and caring community to suffer? #HeatOrEat #FuelProtest @TomClonan @NewstalkFM @rtenews @RTENewsAtOne @colmomongain @SarahAMcInerney @mulvanypeopleb1 @MaryERegan @MaryLouMcDonald @UnaMullally @LunchtimeLiveNT @ILMIreland @InclusionIre @CarersIreland @paulmurphy_TD @ivanabacik @HollyCairnsTD @Toibin1 @caulmick @TortoiseShack @Trickstersworld @TonightVMTV @MichealLehane

Is this the same Christopher Duffy? If so he has no place in any civilised society let alone being a spokesperson for anything.

Duffy Shakes Dáil with Rallying Cry: “The Ball Is in the Government’s Court” Amid RIP Ireland Coffin Procession and Growing Solidarity As fuel price protests continue their fourth day with growing support across Ireland, agricultural contractor Christopher Duffy issued a stirring rallying cry at the foot of the Daniel O Connell statue, vowing that ordinary citizens would not back down until the government delivered meaningful relief on crippling diesel and petrol costs. The grassroots movement, coordinated through WhatsApp groups and the "Irish People Against Fuel Prices" Facebook page, has united farmers, hauliers, construction workers, small businesses and everyday drivers fed up with soaring fuel prices exacerbated by carbon taxes and global pressures. Protests have spread far beyond Dublin, with convoys blocking motorways, fuel depots and key routes in cities and towns including Limerick, Galway, Cork, Sligo and beyond, drawing widespread public solidarity. Speaking at the protest site on O'Connell Street, Duffy , one of four key spokespeople alongside John Dallon, James Geoghegan and Sean McNamara, slammed the government's initial reluctance to engage. "We sent requests on fuel costs and wanted a meeting; they refused even a response," he said. He stressed that the ball is now firmly in the government's court: "The protest will not move until the peoples requests are met, it’s the Government that has closed Dublin! "In a poignant symbolic gesture highlighting the nation's struggles, demonstrators carried a coffin marked "RIP Ireland" through the demonstration, representing the dire economic pressures facing rural and working Ireland. A moment of collective silence observed by protesters near the Dáil added solemn weight to their peaceful call for justice. Support for the protests continues to swell nationwide, with rolling convoys, tractor blockades and public displays of solidarity, including flag-waving onlookers on bridges and roadsides, reported across the country. From Portlaoise, where the movement gained early momentum, to disruptions at fuel depots and motorways, ordinary Irish people are standing together against policies that threaten livelihoods. Duffy and fellow organisers are calling for urgent action: lower fuel taxes, a freeze on carbon tax, price caps and a genuine response to the cost-of-living crisis. As a government meeting with representative bodies is ongoing today, protester representatives are on standby awaiting the outcome. This homegrown movement, born from real economic pain rather than external influence, reflects the frustration of hard-working families and businesses pushed to the brink. With public backing growing stronger by the day, the message from the streets is clear and resolute: the people of Ireland demand relief, and they will sustain peaceful pressure until real solutions are delivered. The coming hours could mark a turning point, but the resolve of protesters like Duffy shows no sign of wavering.

@CorkGourmetGuy @endacazz You do realise even if they are looking out for themselves it still affects everyone else. You can also buy that diesel yourself if you have a tractor. So what’s your point?

Remember that these farmers who are protesting about the cost of diesel at the garage forecourt are actually, even now, paying about €1.60 a litre for their already heavily subsidised diesel that your taxes are funding. #fuelprotests

@NoelleTobin9 @raizingboyz @NiDhubhda Do you know how often people in the private sector work late evenings, log on at weekends, log on while on holidays. You'd swear teachers are the only ones that ever do a bit extra. And you get about 100 days more holidays. Ye are so far out of touch of reality it is incredible
