The NYC Homeless Industrial Complex is a cesspool of thieves and grifters looking to profit on the misery of others and steal from NYC taxpayers.

THE NYC NONPROFIT INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX STRIKES AGAIN The shelter operator whose executives were arrested today is BHRAGS. Not only did they seek to open a migrant shelter in a Gowanus superfund toxic site, they also are in the CDPAP Medicaid Home care business which is plagued with high rates of fraud. It's also a good time to remember that NYC Socialist Mayorista had also recently given this organization the rights to operate the new prison release homeless intake center in the East Village for single men that will replace the Bellevue facility. This is supposed to start on 5/1/26. The executive director and president are now in federal custody.

One of the few articles written about why Brad Lander, who was NYC’s Comptroller from 2021-2025 , did not take the necessary steps to install oversight and systems to ensure that NGO’s receiving massive contracts and taxpayer funds to house and aid the homeless and migrants were doing so honestly and transparently.
The result of this lack of oversight is yesterday’s bribery and corruption charges, but even this, from a federal not a state or city investigation, is probably only the tip of the iceberg.
The allegations made yesterday are especially repulsive because these NGO’s are accused of stealing from the very people who need help the most. It is also not fair to NYC workers who have to foot the bill for the lack of oversight. People like Lander who claim to represent working families really end up fleecing them.
It’s high time for a strong and clear change in direction.
Auditing, oversight, accountability.
Make sure money is spent wisely and well and is actually helping people get out of homelessness and poverty. End the grift and corruption.
The Comptroller should implement a dashboard that tells us exactly what is being spent and for what services and how performance is being measured and by whom. Actual Accountability. Actual Results.

This will become $500 a year very quickly. $25 is just a red herring, to give Democrats the ‘it’s just a small fee for the greater good’ talking point. Once passed, there is absolutely no way this doesn’t end up at $500 or even $1000 annually within a few years.

Can’t be a fiscal hawk & hate on bike lanes Bike lanes are cheapest people-moving capacity. Even tiny bike mode shift pays for itself given how expensive roadways are & how much money folks save by reducing car use. Affordable city = frequent buses & big bike network
