@KobeissiLetter @grok are nitrates higher in poorer countries? If so, would people in lower socioeconomic brackets in the United States have high birth rates than those in high brackets?

What is happening here? The US birthrate is now down -30% since pre-2008 levels while financial wealth is at record highs. Why? Because only asset owners are able to afford this economy. As shown in our below analysis, this crisis accelerated in both 2008 and 2020. And, with every recession and every round of inflationary economic stimulus, the crisis simply accelerates even further. Now, we are seeing the biggest divergence between the S&P 500 and the US birth rate in history. The result? Tons of young Americans simply cannot afford to have kids in another sign of the "K-Shaped" economy. The US is facing a massive demographic crisis.

@future42org Our PSE bill last month was $600+. We have an appointment with a solar company tomorrow morning. Enough is enough. The electric utility can never have a monopoly on what can be produced at home.

“Plopping down a thousand dollars a month for your electric bill is just nuts,” Canadian owned Puget Sound Energy has raised utility prices to the moon in Pierce County to come into compliance with Washington's failing Climate Commitment Act. Now they want an additional double digit increase next year as well. Good thing the CCA is going towards such important progressive community groups such as [checks notes] Mother Africa to [squints] promote climate justice. Someone is selling an entire hill in Tuscany. 45 hectares, for €1.3M ($1.5M). That's 111 acres of southern Tuscan countryside with a 500m² stone farmhouse on top, 9 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, a pool, and an outdoor wood-burning oven. The estate sits at 400m altitude on a privately owned hill near Saturnia, 8 km from the famous thermal baths and 50 km from the Tyrrhenian Sea. The farmhouse was built in the early 1800s by the Piccolomini Counts as the steward's residence for what was once a much larger estate. The current 45 hectares break down as 37 ha of woodland, 7 ha of arable land, and 1 ha of olive grove with 50 trees. It borders a nature park and the Albenga River. What makes the price interesting is the land. 45 hectares fully consolidated and bordering a protected park is rare at this level in Tuscany. Most farmhouses in this price range come with 1-3 hectares of land. Here you're buying the hill itself. The trade-off is access. You're 160 km from Rome airport and 200 km from Pisa, so this isn't a fly-in-for-the-weekend kind of place. Then again, if you're buying a hill in Tuscany, being hard to reach is probably the point. How much would something like this cost where you live?

Mercedes has just officially unveiled the production version of its all-electric AMG GT 4-Door Coupe. • Range: ~315 miles (EPA) • 1,153 hp • 0-60 mph: 2.0s • Peak charging speed: 600kW • 106 kWh battery • 10-80% state of charge as low as 11 mins. Can add 244 miles of range in 10 mins. • Formula 1-based 800-volt battery • Fake V8 engine noises & gear shift sounds (shown below) • Mercedes said it’s using 1,600 audio files to “sonically interpret” different driving situations. The car makes “exhaust burbles and pops" like as gas car. • Axial-flux motors (a first). Runs parallel to the motor’s axis of rotation. In a conventional electric motor, it runs perpendicular to the axis. The front axial flux motor reaches more than 15,000 rpm at top speed. • 2660 cylindrical cells stacked vertically, arrayed in 18 modules, nine to a side. Nickel-cobalt-manganese-aluminum chemistry. Energy density of 298 Wh/kg. • Active aerodynamics • Top speed: 186-mph • Double sunroof with illuminated AMG logos over both driver and passenger seats • Triple-screen layout. 10.2" digital instrument cluster alongside a pair of 14" screens. Infotainment display is slightly tilted toward the driver. • Optional 5 seat layout U.S. deliveries start in late 2026. Pricing will be announced later, but it's expected to be well over $100,000. Over half of all Americans attend some form of ‘higher education’ today, something that was once reserved for a small cohort of people. A large chunk of them don’t even get a degree - just the debt. Closing down 75% of universities will not result in any loss to mind or culture, will save people a lot of $$, and will force schools to fire administrators and focus on research and teaching - for students who actually belong there and want to be there. Pinching off these schools is a good thing.
Anthony Bradley@drantbradley

Clemson is $1.5B in debt. Syracuse is closing or pausing 93 programs, UNC-Chapel Hill plans to cut spending by $89M over 3 years. Duke recently let 600 employees go in a $350M budget cut. Indiana public colleges announced a plan to eliminate or merge 580 programs statewide.

@GuntherEagleman Personal agency IS a myth. It doesn’t matter which boxes you check, or if you check any boxes at all. Free will is an illusion, but that doesn’t mean actions shouldn’t have consequences.

Elon just endorsed it. Gad Saad dropped the hammer on Fox this morning. We now live in a world where: - Rape victims get less sympathy than their rapists - Homeowners get less than the squatters breaking in - American vets get less than illegal migrants - Repeat felons with 186 charges get 200 more “chances” because “society made them do it” This isn’t kindness. This is suicidal empathy. Universities spent decades teaching our judges, leaders, and elites that personal agency is a myth if you check the right oppression boxes. So criminals become victims, victims become bigots for complaining, and the whole system rots from the inside.

May 14, 2026 commute. People have asked what the most common car I see with expired tabs. By far, it’s Teslas. I do work on the Eastside so I see a higher proportion of Teslas anyway so not sure if there is a trend.
