I stopped trying to be liked at work years ago.
It changed how people treated me. Why?
Because approval feels good.
But respect changes everything.
I was chasing comfort.
What I needed was trust.
Being nice feels safe.
Being kind takes courage.
The difference matters more than you think.
✨Remember:
Nice gets applause.
Kind earns trust.

Immediately went back to my desk and spilled coffee all over my computer, which now won't turn on.

I wrote about my dad's early death, and its strange legacy, for the excellent @FTMag.
Writing it was at times painful, but in the end cathartic. As much as anything, I owed it to my extraordinary mum to listen to the story.
