"Young people are never going to know what it's like to wake up at 3 in the afternoon and be like, 'I left my credit card at the bar.'" Momofuku founder @davidchang says people drinking less is "the real existential threat" to the restaurant industry. "The biggest thing that happened in LA over the past 10 years in food was ride sharing," which allowed people to spend more on alcohol, he continued. "Restaurants were a bubble...now, at least in LA, people are drinking much less." From his appearance on the show in November.

Having produced things in US, Latin America, Europe, Asia for work, it’s annoying how many downsides still come with the “Made in US” tag. It’s not just cost: quality control, communication, machines and techniques, reliability, capacity, capabilities, etc. And it depends on what you’re making or how complicated you’re trying to make it, of course. (No — I’m not saying everyone sucks) Was just reading the USA golf glove tweet about the guy spending three years trying to source domestically end to end for one item. He could have punched that into Alibaba and gotten something shipped immediately. I know not the same, but it paints the gaps. Of course if Made-in-US was just “a couple bucks more” brands would come home in droves. One of the cool things about domestic that doesn’t go appreciated is repair programs. Where you can facilitate customer repairs at your factory since you’re local. You could never do this in China or India, etc. And it’s not all doom, it does feel like a resurgence is on the horizon. But as it stands today, “Made in USA” often comes with layers of complexity and friction that make it difficult for brands focused on delivering value to justify the tradeoffs required to carry the label.

My issue with ‘modern’ or new brands and certain ones producing in USA is this How many people are you going to find to pay $225 for these shorts? What’s the point of making these?

We're 4 years into our mortgage. We've paid over $95,000 in mortgage payments – but our balance has only gone down by $31,000. The other $64,000 went to interest, taxes, and insurance. So yeah – owning a home costs a lot more than the price of the home.

If you’re new to investing, don’t spend all your time looking for a bunch of individual stocks that MIGHT outperform the market. Focus on increasing your income. That is the key.

So far, so good in Buenos Aires. Typically not a fan of cities, but this place is nice. Should’ve sharpened up on my Spanish, not a lot of English speakers around here. Did a little shopping today. Not usually a big shopper but when I do, I ball out. Copped a nice leather jacket, supposedly Argentina is known for their leather. Vermouth, Malbec, empanadas and the steaks have lived up to the hype so far. More exploring to do tonight…

Nice guys finish last in sales too. Being a pushover or a happy ears seller is a good way to get walked all over. Selling is a 2-way street that is flow of gives/ges. You have to respect yourself for: -Your expertise -Time you prepare for each meeting -Knowledge in how best to help buyers actually buy -Time that could be going towards another prospect or customer. I recently had a prospect go dark for 30 days after committing to an April timeline. When we got a meeting for early May, most sellers would just be happy they are back online and roll over. I decided instead to call out the elephant in the room. A few (real) questions I shared: “Last time we spoke was April 3rd. We mutually agreed on a timeline to finalize in April and put forward a proposal that reflected that. Why did we not hear from you until early May?” “Timelines change and we understand that… my ask moving forward is you communicate with us, just as I will with you. Is that a fair ask?” Respect your time and expertise as a seller. Because if you do not, no one will.

@natolisnuggets I know this is triggering and I don’t mean disrespect. But was sales much harder selling without a big logo behind you? The AE grind is hard no matter the company but curious if you’d ever step away from big tech

You took a 40% pay cut to join a startup. "The equity will make up for it." 4 years of 70-hour weeks. Company just got acquired. Your shares are worth $14,000. The founders made $47 million. What will you do?

Trying to wrap my head around a Porsche using the name ‘Ferrari Rosso Barchetta’ for a paint color. Weird to use another automaker's name to describe a color. I doubt Ferrari has a paint code with the word Porsche.
