@BarryNSmith79 @ShakinthatChalk I do agree with that, it's hard to build a culture when teachers are working alone for 5/6hrs a day. But given we can't recruit/retain already, increasing hours/shortening holidays will hardly help?

@ConfusedTim @ShakinthatChalk Perhaps different work patterns might work. Need to find a way to improve school culture. That takes contact time to train teachers. 32.5 hours over 39 weeks doesn’t work for that.

I part agree. And strongly. Though 1265 hours per year is also silly. The normalisation of extra sessions for y11 is odd. Providing snacks & allowing casual clothes to encourage pupils to attend also odd. Yet they’ve spent 5 years with so much of the school day wasted.

@ShakinthatChalk It’s very difficult to meet with staff & train them effectively within 1265. This has a devastating impact upon school culture.

@oldandrewuk A decent proportion of SEND diagnosis in my school is just a mask for poor behaviour and parenting.

There’s a tweet doing the rounds about a teacher, an offered NDA & alleged bullying & discrimination. A head and MAT are identified. I urge people to do their own fact check. The teachers ET claim was dismissed (pending appeal).

@oldandrewuk My school is under the opinion that rewriting the curriculum every two years will sort out behaviour. Oddly, it doesn't seem to be working...

Nothing makes more of a difference to a school, in terms of outcomes and happiness of staff and pupils, than sorting behaviour. Leaders who neglect this leave a trail of destruction.

When you obviously raised this with the head/chair of Governors, what did they say!?

Why do some people who have never worked in a challenging school, or even taught at all, feel compelled to tell teachers what to do? If you don't get why schools have rules about equipment, leaving lessons, and uniforms, maybe it's best to stay silent.

@neuroteachers hmmm I have complex feelings--I think what I care most about is both (1) ensuring schools are safe places where learning can happen and (2) ensuring students get the support they need (behavioral, emotional, academic) to succeed whatever kind of school they attend.

Help please twitter teacher PPT users. I’ve made the switch from smart notebook to PPT and overall I’m happy. But the one problem is the lack of ‘extend page’ option for lengthy calculations. Anyone got a solution to this problem? @draustinmaths @DrFrostMaths @jemmaths

@Soarpoints @ShakinthatChalk How can anyone in education be affexted by the annual allowance? Surely no-one is being paid that much.

@ShakinthatChalk Really? I’ve paid in for additional voluntary contributions since I was 21 & looking at new staff now & with how annual allowance is kicking in for some colleagues I think option to have sig+ more pay in pocket & different pension feels good. Not sure anyone will be in tears

@ConfusedTim Yes I mean those ones. I found pdf copies on the Collins website but they’re £6000 for the Y7, Y8 and Y9 books! That’s more than my full department yearly budget!

Does anyone know if you can get pdf copies of the WRM textbooks for KS3 if you have already purchased the books?

Why bother keeping track of the pen you borrowed P1 if you know your P2 teacher will give you another...

@ShakinthatChalk @Mr_N_Wood Exactly, but why not? We can see it works without a problem at primary, so why not do the same at secondary?

You know why pens are such an issue in schools? Teachers are left high and dry trying to manage it. Every conference I’ve been to supplies pens so the high standards argument doesn’t hold water. If schools supplied pens as standard this wouldn’t be an issue.
