The "popularity" of Marathon may have been astroturfed. Evidence from the leaked Discord thread shows they were allegedly paid $5 per main Reddit post and $3 per comment/reply. There is no confirmation yet whether this is true or not, but it could signal Bungie's desperation to combat the negative press the game is getting... because 19K off peak and barely over 40k on peak hours is not gonna be enough to sustain this game long term, due to the costs and budget of the game. Steam review manipulations have also occurred in the past with games like SKIBIDI BACKROOMS, Monsters Domain, Lonely Knight, and Blue Archive. But the disconnect between high steam reviews and the rapidly vanishing playerbase is real... and some people are saying that the positive Marathon reviews are allegedly coming from low-playtime accounts. Even recently, Bungie was accused of scrubbing negative feedback on the Xbox store, where the ratings jumped from ~2.5 to 4+ stars after negatives vanished...














A hugely underrated aspect of the Dune universe's appeal is how Frank Herbert built a world where people zip around the galaxy in spaceships but then fight each other with swords and knives. It makes everything 50 percent cooler than a world of ray guns and robots.
